Prusa Mini Clog

Hi,

I suffered an epic clog during a overnight print.  I had to disassemble both the extruder assembly and the hot end, both of which had become locked up with Orange PLA.  I put everything back together, ran self tests and first layer calibration with no problems.

Unfortunately, when I tried first first test print, there was severe underextrusion and clicking from the extruder while it was laying down the first layer.  So... I must still have a partial clog.  Sigh.

So, I just ordered a roll of white ABS to do some hot and cold pulling.  If that doesn’t work, maybe I’ll remove the nozzle and do a deeper inspection.

I checked the idler screw and it seems to be set correctly.

Any other advice?

I assume you have followed the steps in this article? https://help.prusa3d.com/en/article/clogged-nozzle-hotend-mini_112011

I had a mini clog like you described as well. My nozzle was clear but I moved the heatbrake/nozzle up as described in the article, just in case. And since then I have no clogs at all.

Yes, I did, though I did have great difficulty doing a cold pull with PLA (the only type of filament I had at the time).  When I first looked down the nozzle, it appeared to be a partial clog.  I tried a cold pull, and the filament snapped when I tried to pull it out, creating a very signficant full clog.

So, I tried more cold pulls to no avail.  I then used a accupunture needle to push the hard clog up through the top after some poking.  All seemed well, and I reassembled.

I suspect perhaps I missed some remnants of the first clog, which is why I'm planning to go back to cold pulling, this time with white ABS, which is what I've seen recommended.  I tried to find nylon filament, but I couldn't find any that wasn't very expensive.

I suppose worst case I can replace the nozzle, which for ~$7.50 on Amazon doesn't seem like a signficant price to pay to avoid further frustration.

Or use this opportunity to upgrade the nozzle! 😀

Hi,  in just 2 days Ive encounter  twice filament clog@jam inside the Bowden tube. Its really frustating, after about 60% printing in progress,  the filament jam inside the tube betwen the extruder and heater... I have to pull the filament manualy but not easy as it get stuck at the tube where theres a brass ring around the tube. Maybe the brass ring inside diameter is a bit tight and compressed the tube  make it hard to pull filament out.

I just want to make suggestion make the bowdens tube inside diameter a little  bit large +1 or +1.5mm to the diameter...

I dont know if increasing inside diameter will cause another issue?

@jrudad

I asked Prusa support about the Bowden tube, as mine does add a bit of friction along the path.  They firmly maintain that my issue (underextrusion, clicking and grinding by the extruder) is due to a clog, not the tube.  Still, I did just order a couple replacement tubes, as they are pretty cheap, and I wanted to be certain.

Is there other alternative or compatible bowden tube that doesnt cause filament clog @ jam as both of my clog problem are inside the bowden tube.

i have only had the best experience with these PTFE tubes (XS series): https://www.captubes.com/
