Printing artifact help? Vertical lines

I’m getting some artifacts in printing. See pic. Lines where I guess the printing head repeatedly changes direction maybe? Any way to prevent?

Best Answer by Walter Layher:

You find this in Print Settings > Layers and perimeters, look where it says "Aligned" and change that setting to "Random".

RE:

Did you print with "variable layer height"? If so, try to turn that off to get a more uniform result.
Ah, sorry, I see what you mean now. That is the seam from the layer change. You can choose to distribute the layer changes so that they do not appear as a straight line.

Thanks! Wonder why anyone would ever want the layer changes aligned, and why that’s the default setting…

RE:

Every part is different and some parts have a side that is always at the back and no one will ever look at it. Also if you put the seam in a corner (at the back) it will be less visible. You can also paint on the seams where you would want them to be.

So if I change this to random will it be a bunch of random bumps on the part? Like, the bumps are inevitable and it’s just a matter of where to put them? Or does making them random mean they won’t be accumulate into a raised bump on the surface?

You can tune the size of the bumps e.g. with you retraction setting to make them less prominent.
