My printing plate is getting older!

Hey family,

I'm a super happy user of my Mini Prusa +. It's just flawless. Over time and after hundred of prints, my printing bed is getting in a bad shape. I know it's reversible but when I try to flip it and print on the other side... it's not adhering right. Do you have a pro tip for me ?

I could also buy another plate, but if it's reversible it's not needed in the very short time.

Thanks!

RE: My printing plate is getting older!

your build plate has probably been contaminated with finger grease and other nasties.
I would take it to the kitchen sink, and give it a really good clean with hot water and a little dish soap. using a new kitchen sponge. then rinse it with clean hot water and dry immediately with plain paper towels.

IPA does not do as good a job as hot water and dish soap.
After cleaning, keep your fingers off the build surface.

I made it a habit to not alway print in the middle when not necessary. Just move parts around in the slicer. That way, wear in the middle can be reduced a lot.

I second the advice from Joan. Since I mostly use the satin sheet, I do even hardly ever need to use the mentioned sponge. Dish soap and hot water is usually enough. If you never touch it with your fingers directly, even that wash is seldom necessary.

You've got holes in the coating on the plate, so you may be interested in :

- cleaning plate as it was mentioned

- cleaning also gloves from time to time because they tend to get dirty as well over time

- use custom texture in PrusaSlicer to add bad zone markings and then manually move items around the plate so they are not centered https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/postid/702238/

- or save yourself additional headaches and work and just buy a new one 😉

See my GitHub and printables.com for some 3d stuff that you may like.

Prevent damage to the plate by:

  • use the appropriate plate
  • let it cool down before taking of the part (thermal expansion of sheet and filament is very different)
  • take the sheet off the printer and bend it slightly to make use of peeling
  • if necessary, limit adhesion by a (very thin) layer of glue; I wet a paper towel with alcohol, touch the glue stick with it and wipe it onto the cold sheet.

see: prusa3d.com/materials

I do not use gloves. Instead I use paper towels which I change regularly.
