Got my Original Prusa Mini last night

Hello!

I'm Gabriel, and I live near St. Paul, MN. I got my Prusa Mini on Wednesday night and printed the nut. This is my second 3D Printer after my difficulties with the iMakr STARTT printer (a rebranded and stripped-down Anet A8 - which is already amazing that the A8 can be stripped down even further than it already is).

Assembly was generally easy, with few screws. It certainly took me more than 30 minutes though, but it wasn't too bad. In retrospect, I wish I had more lights on in the room, as that would have made it a bit easier to assemble that night. My only hiccup is that the spool holder had one wrong screw in it which was too short, but there was one proper size screw in the spares. I then did have some difficulty with Calibration. The dial lets you adjust how close the tip is to the board in little "-0.002" increments. I had to set mine to "-0.720" for a good print, which was way, way more than I thought I would have to do from the instructions. When the dial during calibration adjusts by so little, it was counterintuitive that one would need to set it that high. Perhaps the dial should adjust by more?

After I finally got it calibrated, I printed the nut. It came out beautifully, with very smooth sides. I used the sample Prusament for it, and it looks and feels very good. When printing the nut, there is actually almost no support structure for printing the top (just the infill), yet the Mini bridged across the "chasms" (for lack of a better word) surprisingly well. The software is solid, and I have no complaints regarding it, as it really "just works."

Overall, for my first day, I'm very happy. I just think the Calibration could be a little clearer, but otherwise, it's currently doing an amazing job. I will probably update this post later on with long-term thoughts and some videos of it printing. One more thing: The Steel Sheet that comes with the Mini, while great, I can't figure out what the middle warning symbol on it means. It looks like a heart with a wire coming out of it and a giant criss-cross (kind of like the symbol on No Parking in the US) over the top of it. No idea what that means, and I will probably upload a photo once my phone's battery charges (it's dead right now).

The warning sign indicates there is a strong magnetic field in the bed to warn users with pacemakers.

Very cool! I'm excited to get mine in January. BTW I live in Blane, MN so maybe we run into each other at some 3D printer/hackerspace meetup.

What's up St. Paul and Blaine.  I'm over in Zimmerman.  Glad to see the Prusa love here in MN!

Do we have any cool maker fairs here in the frozen north?  I would enjoy going to one.

Don't be too concerned about the z-offset number - it makes correction for the difference between the nozzle tip and the MINDA probe. The factory adjustment of the MINDA probe in your case is probably not optimal, but if you read some other comments, you'll that there are far more worse adjustments being made. You could experiment with the MINDA height probe yourself, but as it is now printing to your satisfaction, I would leave it alone.

Heck - that sure looks like a lot of fingerprints right across that brand new sheet 😧

Very clean Benchy. Good to see the mini is printing just as good as a MK3. Really makes it hard to wait till January or February to get my own.
