What do you use these for?  These look similar to the rocketry telemetry units I use.

GPS tracking, with real-time calls to our cloud servers via APIs. Logistic stuff. This version is wi-fi, can also be LoRa or 5G. Footprint stays about the same for any of the 3 backhaul data versions.

You could pop the build plate in the fridge, or dribble IPA Around the base of the model on a cold build plate...

I take the build plate off the heatbed, to cool it down  faster, the heatbed has a greater thermal mass and cools more slowly  than the build plate

[...] I guess my questions is whether I need to let the sheet cool down to room temp for the larger items with more surface area?

If anything is sticking too well, letting it cool is always recommended. You can toss the sheet into the freezer to speed up the process. Simply removing the sheet so the underside is exposed to cooling air will also speed it up considerably. Most of the time, parts will pop off a cooled sheet of any time with little effort.

That is interesting.  I use similar devices to report locations of high powered rockets through either cellular or 900mhz.  I can locate a sub mach rocket in seconds after landing.

and ....@all

I take back my comment about mass of the surface space of the object, This stand off washer is 10 mm diameter. As you can see in the attached video it is not cooperating. Was on a call after it printed. So by the time I walked over to remove the sheet/[plate was completely cooled off.

Wow....Much more exciting than our current activity. We have mostly small / light weight needs. So 3D is working really well. As I said earlier in the thread, there have been several instance where we would have been stuck needing a custom part, and within 30 minutes we had it in our hands. Awesome productivity.

RE: Extra Steel Sheets

Are you looking for coated or are you going to surface them yourself?

I purchased some FYSETC Plain steel sheets for a surface comparison write up.  I did a review.

I'll just buy for now. I am out of town for meetings for the next 3 weeks. So will not be doing anything with it until I get back. Thanks for the conversation, advice, and link. I appreciate it.

If you want powder coated, I have another great product to recommend from FilamentOne.

I also purchased a FYSETC Plain steel sheets - and since that is a "clean" steel sheet: I can't use that right away?

Excuse my noob question: Do I have to fit it with a foil first before I can print on it?

Of course, you need to stick a coating beforehand. There are different possibilities, e.g. PEI, Kapton, Buildtak etc....
Such adhesive foils are available in all sizes and there are enough on the market.

I'm in the US.

I have seen for example Buildtac, but that seems to be pretty expensive.

Is there any simple and inexpensive way for such a foil ?

The cheapest surface is plain old blue painter's tape.  Buildtac will work and it lasts a long time as long as you do not try to clean it with Acetone.  My sheet is two years old and works very well for PLA.  I also have a sheet for Nylon and PP.  There are also free knockoffs that you can get for free with the purchase of a roll of Overture PLA.

If it has to be cheap, you can find this here, for example: PEI foil

I like these but they are rather thin.  I usaully order Bondtac PEI because it is thinker and tends to be more resilient.   Be careful because there is a difference between Bondtac PEI and Bondtac standard.  Bondtac sheets are not PEI and has limitation of use.  I would never use that with certain filaments.  Bondtac PEI can used for any filament that you would print on a PRUSA PEI sheet.

@cwbullet

There is a good distributor in my area. That's where I always buy my coatings. It's not cheap, but they have good products.

https://www.muellerbestellung.de/3D-Druck-Dauerdruckplatten-und-Folien

I have had only good experiences with these coatings and others such as buildtak and nylon.

I would not save money on printing plates and nozzles, otherwise there will only be problems and filament will be lost.

It does not have to be cheap, but I just need 1 sheet - and not e.g. a pack of 10 🙂

@cwbullet

Any good source in the US that you are aware of for the Bondtac PEI you like ?
