Anyone thinking about nextruder or other mk4 upgrades to their mini?

With the mk4 coming out, I'm jealous of the nextruder and perfect bed level/first layers. Been my only issue with the mini... I'm considering a revo hotend, but would obviously prefer to stay with prusa stuff.

So, I'm pondering if it'll be possible to install a nextruder (when parts are available...) on the mini, or at least the whole loadcell and hotend set up. Figured I'd see if anyone else was thinking about it too.

And, relatedly - Mini Mk2 when?

Not sure how that would work without firmware support for it.

Unfortunately, I'm all too familiar with those moments 😀

No, but that's because when I read the announcement article I decided to buy the MK4 as soon as the kit is available, and I'll sell my Mini after I'm up and running on the MK4.

Oh yes, I fully plan to get one when I can. But, money being what it is... a 200 dollar upgrade is much more reachable (I'm guessing on price) than the full mk4. At least for now.

I have a Mini+ with the Revo and I love it. The one thing from the MK4 I'd like to have is the no manual adjust perfect first layer capability.

I have an XL on order to be my 2nd printer but I am seriously tempted to by a MK4 and sell the Mini+. Tough decision because I really like my Mini+.

I'd be happy with just the bed level measurement in just the print area vs the entire bed. To the layman that seems like something that could be implemented into the mini firmware.

I'm pretty content with the stock mini

I would honestly love a Mini MK2 with a nextruder mini, with load cell and swappable hotend like the i3 MK4, i would definitely grab the upgrade.

I would love it if prusa released an update to have the nextruder especially to avoid setting the z offset... fingers crossed 🙂

The Z-axis of the Mini is only guided on one side. Therefore it is necessary to reduce as much weight on the arm as possible.

A direct extruder like the Nextruder should therefore be avoided on the Mini. And because of the lack of stability on the left side, the load cell will not function properly either.

Hadn't thought about that aspect of the loadcell not working. hmm. pity.

I'm not sure if it's not possible to use a load cell... in the end it would do more or less what the pinda does... if it doesn't have to apply too much force I don't think it could be a big problem... about the nextruder it doesn't could use like bowden?

Yeah getting a proper direct extruder wouldn't really work, but i think you could still integrate the load cell for leveling and the swappable hotend without problems, those don't really require direct drive afaik, and they would still give you plenty of benefits.
