4.2.0 Firmware for Original Prusa MINI
This is the final release of the firmware. This changelog is a summary of the previous release (RC1) with a few additional changes introduced in this release.
Summary
- Firmware localized into 7 languages
- New sound volume option
- Pause print from USB (M601) fixed
- Printer beeping in silent mode fixed
Detailed description
Firmware localized into 7 languages
Until now, the firmware for the Original Prusa MINI was available only in the English language. With this release, we are adding support for more languages. Apart from English, users can now also select:
- Czech
- German
- Spanish
- French
- Italian
- Polish
Compared to the previous generations of the Original Prusa i3 printers, the MINI is able to change the language instantly. Also, thanks to a better LCD screen, diacritical marks are now supported. The entire firmware uses UTF-8 texts.
There are two ways to change the language:
- Via a prompt when the printer starts for the first time. This is a typical example of new printers leaving the factory, and also if the firmware is updated to version 4.2.0. Once the language is set, the user won't be asked again, even after updating to higher versions than the 4.2.0.
- The other option is to change the language manually. Go to LCD Menu - Settings - Language and pick the desired language. As mentioned earlier, the change is instant.
Known issues:
- Error texts in the “red screens” remain untranslated, this part of the firmware is currently undergoing a major update, planned for the upcoming release
New sound volume option
The previous firmware release 4.1.0 introduced sound profiles (Loud, Once, Silent and Assist) known from the Original Prusa i3 family. In this release, we are expanding this feature even further. Not only are you able to change different sound modes, but also the volume.
If the user finds the warnings too loud or too quiet, it’s possible to adjust the volume on a scale from 0 to 10 through Settings - Sound volume. The default value is 5.
Pause print from USB (M601) fixed
The latest stable firmware 4.1.0 ignores the M601 G-code, which is supposed to pause the running print. This function is useful, for example, when you plan to embed magnets into the object during the print.
This issue is now fixed while printing a G-code generated in PrusaSlicer from a USB drive. Note that M601 is currently not working for OctoPrint and Pronterface, it will be addressed in the future firmware release.
Printer beeping in silent mode fixed
In case the printer was switched to silent mode, but the filament sensor was present and activated, the printer kept beeping when the filament was absent (e.g. filament runout). This is now fixed and the printer remains silent even when the filament runs out.
Supported printer:
- Original Prusa MINI

How to flash the firmware on MINI:
- Copy the firmware file (.bbf) onto the USB drive with FAT32 formatting
- Insert the flash drive in the MINI's USB port
- Turn the printer ON (or reset it)
- A new screen will appear
- Confirm you want to flash the firmware
- Wait till the firmware is flashed and printer fully boots into the home screen

RE: 4.2.0 Firmware for Original Prusa MINI
I hit a problem after upgrading to 4.2.0 on one of the Priusa Minis I maintain, and I want to fall back to 4.1.0. I've downloaded the firmware (Buddy-4.1.0-final+1923.bbf). I've followed the instructions from the knowledge base but my older firmware file isn't recognized, so I'm never prompted to "upgrade".
- I've done a full factory reset, no effect.
- I've reformatted my USB drive, no effect.
- I've used a different USB drive, no effect.

Hello and welcome in the Prusaforum!
I had the same problem.
Insert the USB stick with the 4.1.0 firmware, press the reset button and immediately press the control button/knob twice briefly. Then the prompt for flashing the firmware should appear.
good luck!

RE: 4.2.0 Firmware for Original Prusa MINI - Finish time issue
Hi I am posting here as not sure where else to post
I have the Mini connected to my LAN and is therefore picking up the time. This is, showing the correct end time. I am in the uk so TZ UTC is set at +1.
Now the issue:
Prints that start and end in the morning, end time is correct.
Prints that end after noon have an incorrect end time.

The best way to get this to the attention of the developers is to open an issue at https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware-Buddy/issues .

Same mistake with me! In spite of correct time zone settings, I get adventurous ads about the print end times. Without a network connection, the displayed values are more or less the correctly to the actual print times.
I work with Octoprint over WLAN, where the printing times are displayed reasonably correctly so it concerns me less, but the error should be reported at Github.

4.2.1 has been released with a fix for the webservertask BSOD problem. https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware-Buddy/releases/tag/v4.2.1
RE: 4.2.0 Firmware for Original Prusa MINI
Has anybody else had to recalibrate first layer with this release?
I've just tried to print PETG for the first time since I upgraded to 4.2.0 and it just wasn't sticking to the textured sheet.
I've had to increase (or decrease - dependent on how you view it) the first layer Z offset by (-) 0.08mm, I'm a newbie to this and 0.08 seems like a lot (at least its a lot of clicks on the adjustment wheel).
Perhaps I was just incredibly lucky with my previous calibration and I've been getting away with it for the last couple of months but it seems like a co-incidence that this is the first PETG print on the new f/w ... my PLA prints have all been fine at the previous offset (but they're on the thicker smooth sheet)

@craig.trader
Thanks - I'll try that ... I'll have to go back to 4.0.5 though 'coz I missed 4.1.0
... I might try 4.2.1 first - in case they've fixed it in that
Regards

I am looking forward to your feedback on how the printer behaves with 4.2.1.

4.2.1 is the same (if not worse) than 4.2.0 w.r.t. PETG first layer - I tried to print the same print I managed with 4.2.0 and I couldn't get a decent first layer so I'm going back to 4.0.5. - I know that works

This is ridiculous. I'm still on 4.0.3 because I know that works. Will we ever get an update that works???

The more people who contact the Prusa Chat with various problems, the faster we hope that a functional update will be realized.
