Pb 1ere couche
Bonjour/Bonsoir,
D'avance merci !
Re: Pb 1ere couche
No French classes, sorry.
Contamination is the first place to inspect...
Hot Water wash: as needed
Handle the bed only by the edges.
Wash the bed in hot water, use a fresh paper towel as a wash cloth, with a few drops of plain dish soap (Dawn, unscented, no anti-bacterial, etc.). Rinse well in hot water - if you have very soft water, rinse a bit longer.
Dry the bed with a fresh paper towel.
Handle the bed only by the edges.
Place bed on printer.
Alcohol rinse: every few prints
Once in a while, an alcohol rinse is helpful to remove PLA residue. It does not remove finger oils.
Pour a 5 cm puddle of 91%+ alcohol in the middle of the bed, use a fresh paper towel to scrub the bed. Wipe up all the alcohol.
Streak test: when contamination is suspected and after a wash
With a fresh piece of paper towel, and very clean fingers, dampen the towel with 91%+ alcohol, and wipe the bed side to side moving back to front, like you're painting it with alcohol. The alcohol should be thin enough on the towel it quickly evaporates. If you see any streaks, the bed is dirty and needs a wash.
Acetone wash: infrequent
Pour a 2 cm puddle of acetone on the bed, scrub it around with a fresh paper towel. It will evaporate fast as you clean. This step removes PEI oxides that form over time and with heat, and improves PLA adhesion to a like new state.
Re: Pb 1ere couche
Ne pas mettre les doigts dessus ouch aïe et avant chaque impression passer l'alcool isopro 91% ;
Re: Pb 1ere couche
Alcohol doesn't clean the bed of finger oils. It simply moves them around and thins them into a microscopic layer. You can see the oil is still there as a sheen and light smears. Soap and water removes the oils. Alcohol removes the PLA and other plastic residue. Acetone removes the Polyethylene oxides that build up over time (heat damages the PE).
Do a soap and water wash: you will be surprised at how well it works.
Re: Pb 1ere couche
Ok Thanks Tim ! I will test now ! ^^
Re: Pb 1ere couche
Good! Sometimes it takes a couple of washes to get to the bottom of the grease. I have soft water (low mineral content) and soap doesn't rinse off well, so I have to wash and rinse then rinse again. These days, I wash my hands first, then wash the PEI sheet, then rinse a few times in the hottest water I can. If I still see "shadows" of old prints, I'll then use alcohol to remove the PLA residue. On stubborn spots, I'll then use acetone and scrub the spot that is still not quite right. Since acetone leaves a milky PE film, I will use alcohol to remove that last bit. I don't use acetone often, maybe once a month.
