Why buy from Printed Solid when...

Why buy something from Printed Solid in the US when it's CHEAPER to buy it directly from Prusa even if you're from the US?

One of the primary detractors from purchasing something from Print Solid is that how expensive it is to have it shipped to you, even with you are next door to them!

For example, I went to purchase a roll of Prusa PLA (already pricey, by great), and Printed Solid wants $61.14US vs Prusa (in the Czech Republic) wants only $56.96US. Wow.

Humph.

That's assuming the filament is even in-stock. According to Tommy, PrintedSolid will be making all Prusament in-house at some point. Anyway, I don't see any reason to shop from them. The irony is that it's also faster to get it (to the West Coast) from the Czech Republic because it gets shipped DHL or FedEx whereas PrintedSolid ships UPS ground.

WOW. I'm one state over... and about 60 miles (~96km)... and it's cheaper from the CR! Man... that is not an great marketing strat.

I've also had printed solid take 3-5 days just to ship an order, then drop it in USPS (not even USPS Priority)... CS at the Prusa mothership is better.

The Prusament I have is wonderful stuff, but I've only ordered it when I had other things on the order to make it seem worthwhile. AFAIK, I've never ordered a thing from Printed Solid. It's probably impossible to beat Amazon with Prime free shipping. Filament arrives in 1-2 days and I try to shop deals and specials, or I just buy Elegoo, which is decent and inexpensive. I also bought Buddy3D PLA from Prusa and liked it. It was inexpensive, but it's out of stock and I wonder if they'll just drop it in favor of the more expensive Prusament. In business, a race to the bottom is never good, but OTOH I don't see a big market for excessively expensive filament. There's a lot of competition right now.

you're right for sure that there is a bunch of inexpensive filament options!

I will say that Prusa filament is fantastic stuff and I especially like things like the royal blue PLA, which I don't seem to be able to find anything comparable.

of course that's a very special situation.

I will say that the buddy PLA in silk is actually extremely nice.

very disappointed, though in printed solid

I had a to buy a few replacement parts last week. Checked PrintedSolid, and of course half of them were out of stock. So I ended up ordering from Prusa directly, and it turned out to be cheaper than PrintedSolid. Plus, it arrived within a few days, whereas most of the time I ordered from PrintedSolid it took over a week to get stuff from Delaware to Massachusetts...

Industrial absurdity is sometimes hard to grasp, and it's still a win-win situation.

Imagine you'd have to order run-of-the-mill 3D-printed parts for their weight in gold, and then some.

No, I made this up... It's too absurd and nobody who has hypothetically run into this situation would be willing to admit it.

Part of me thinks that maybe Prusa is trying to close off the retail side of PrintedSolid and just make it a repair and support center. My guess is the purchase of PrintedSolid was strategic so Prusa can qualify for military and education contracts in the US.

I've had the opposite experience, quick to ship to MA, granted via USPS so that is a hit or miss how long it takes, though still far better than Fedex from Prusa, which is a disaster at Memphis. Free shipping over $50, Prusa wants min $20 to ship anything and it goes way up for filament when added on.
