Side by Side Pieces Printing Differently

Printing this: Practical Seed Packet Organizer

New to Prusa.  In slicer I had to divide the frame in half with the sides of the frame facing down on the bed.  I had to print the two halves 60cm or so apart to make room for the organic supports.  MK4S using generic PLA.

What I don't understand is one piece had a nice smooth "bottom" but the other had a 1rst layer that was a stringy mess.   The opposite happened on the horizontal cross members supported by organic supports.  The piece with the smooth bottom had a stringy bottom on the crosspiece.  The piece with the stringy bottom had nice smooth sides on the crosspiece.  Any idea what's going on here?

Did you check in the slicer that the first sliced layer for the part that went stringy was actually on the bed?  I habitually check the sliced output before printing and often catch unsupported or other suspicious looking parts.

On the crosspiece, was the bridging in the same direction on both parts?

Oh... posted almost a month ago.  Probably sorted or given up by now then!

I may get around to checking that but I have focused on a couple of more serious issues since the post.  After a bit of research I found that the most common advice was to print the first layer at a lower temp.  I found that printing both PLA and PETG first layer at 10 deg lower temp did improve things.   I haven't tried slowing down first layer printing but that seems to another common suggestion for bad first layers.
