Multiple colors on the same layer?

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I'm not 100% sure what I'm even looking for...

I'm trying to print a single layer with about 10 different colors for a couple of insignias to be embedded into a burial flag display case. I'm having a heck of a time trying to figure this out for some reason. No matter what I do with these files, it seems to import a just 1 big file.  I feel like I need to import the image, select each color and set that to a filament color, but getting the thing to import has been stumping me for a few days.  I'll also need to invert it because I want the colors printed on the first layer on a my textured sheet to give a better look.

Can someone please point me in the right direction?

RE: Multiple colors on the same layer?

Can you please attach your project file, with the STL's?
the project files need to be Zip Compressed in order to allow the Forum to include the files. otherwise the forum quietly drops the files.

I think there is a problem with the  STL

Thanks.  What is the best way to convert an svg like these to a 3d file? I'm painting the image on using SketchUp and then exporting it as an STL, but it's just being a jerk about working.  I can also import the image directly into Prusa Slicer and it gives me the shape, but just a solid color.

RE:

I  sometimes use Inkscape to create or edit an SVG and I then use 123Ddesign to break the SVG File, into different components, however, sometimes there are easier ways...

I did  a search with Yeggi, and found a file that had been used to create a coaster for SeaBees...

I downloaded the file from
https://makerworld.com/en/models/804322?from=search#profileId-744739

and found that it  was segmented into loads of elements (the originator had done some of the hard work)

however I could not find any colour separation... So I had a go myself...
Please bear in mind, that I am Dyslexic and find colour sequencing difficult, so some of the segments may not be ideal colours...
this print is intended to print face down, which is also the way I would do prints like this, anyway...
the colour segments appear to occupy 1mm depth in the coaster (5 layers at 0.2mm layer height)
I use a mk3.9 printer with MMU3, so I am used to using 5 filaments, so that is what i did here,
I believe I have set this up, to use manual colour changes...
So...
Layer 1 will go Filament 1, Filament  2, Filament  3, Filament  4, Filament 5.

The printer will then retain filament 5 for the first cells on layer two, therefore your first change on layer 2 will be
Filament 1, followed by Filament  2, Filament  3, Filament  4,

The printer will then retain filament 4 for the first cells on layer three, therefore your first change on layer 3 will be
Filament 1, followed by Filament  2, Filament  3, Filament  5,
(Note, as filament 4 was already loaded  at the beginning of layer 4, it is not re loaded and the sequence jumps to filament 5)

at the end of layer3, the printer will retain filament 5 for the first cells on layer 4 and your first change on layer 4 will be
Filament 1, followed by Filament  2, Filament  3, Filament  4,

The printer will then retain filament 4 for the first cells on layer five, therefore your first change on layer 5 will be
Filament 1, followed by Filament  2, Filament  3, Filament  5,

As the model currently stands, the filament for layer 6 would need to be Filament 1 and would remain so, for all of the successive layers

I suspect there is a possibility that the dark blue backing layers(Filament 4)  from layer 6, onwards, may cause the other colours to look a little dull, when viewed after the print completes, so you may wish to use filament 3 instead, this would have the effect of making the back of the coaster white...

I Hope this works for you.

Thank you so much!  I've never heard of Yeggi as a search engine.  I'll see if I can find the Navy one to compliment it.
