Software Mismatch

I completed may upgrade of my MK4 to MK4S. Upon trying to print an older file made on 2.6.1 slicer I get and get a message about software not being compatible. I click ignore and is warns that the variable fan speed is not goint to be used and fan will run aa a fixed speed. I upgraded pursaslicer to 2.8.1 and re sliced the same part and still get the same message. Part prints okay. In going to the setting for pursaslicer I only had a choice for the MK4 printer and not the MK4S.

Any idea what is going on?

RE: Software Mismatch

Open the PrusaSlicer Configuration Wizard and use it to add the profiles for the MK4S.  Also, make sure that the printer firmware is set to MK4S (Settings, Hardware, Printer Type).

If you use a MK4S profile in PrusaSlicer and have the Firmware set to MK4S, the warnings should disappear.

RE:

To add the printer profiles to PrusaSlicer:

  1. Start PrusaSlicer 2.8.1.
  2. From the menu bar, choose "Configuration, Configuration Wizard."  The Wizard will open to its "Welcome" screen.
  3. On the left side of the Wizard's Welcome screen, choose "Prusa Research".  This should show screen of printer profiles.
  4. In the "MK4 Family" section, find "Original Prusa MK4S" (probably the first printer shown), and choose the profiles you want to install (The first box, "HF0.4 mm nozzle", is appropriate for the HF 0.4 nozzle included with the MK4S upgrade).
  5. At the bottom right of the Wizard screen, choose "Finish".
  6. Now you should be back on the PrusaSlicer Main Screen.
  7. On the right side, in the "Printer" dropdown, choose the "Original Prusa MK4S HF0.4 nozzle".  You can now slice models for the MK4S with HF 0.4mm nozzle, and export the G-code to a USB stick for printing.
  8. If you are using Prusa Connect, PrusaLink, or Octoprint to transfer files, you will also want to create a "Physical Printer" based on the "Original MK4S HF0.4 nozzle", but this isn't necessary if you are saving Gcode to the USB stick for printing.

To make sure your Printer firmware is set correctly:

  1. From the printer's LCD, choose "Settings, Hardware".
  2. The first item there should be "Printer Type", and it should be set to "MK4S".   If not, use the rotary knob to highlight that line, and click the knob to toggle between "MK4" and "MK4S".

There is no "Configuration Wizard" selection under the Configuration selection.

RE: Software Mismatch

An alternate way to start the Wizard is:  From the menu, choose "Printers".  Click on the Printer dropdown list, scroll to the bottom, and choose "--- Add/Remove Printers ---".

If Configuration Wizard is missing from the "Configuration" menu, and will not start from the "--- Add/Remove Printers ---" item, then I recommend that you uninstall and reinstall PrusaSlicer.
