Problem Printing with Lightweight PLA Filament

I have a Prusa MK4 printer.  I want to print an RC model from 3D LabPrint. I am using the specified 3D LabPrint Lightweight PLA filament.  I have added the Lightweight PLA filament name and settings in PrusaSlicer 2.8.0 and it shows up in the Filament window under User presets.  I have sliced a portion of the model (using the recommended 3D LabPrint settings in PrusaSlicer) and have exported the G Code to my Prusa MK4 memory stick.  However, when I try to print the printer screen says that the filament is either missing or is the wrong filament.  If I say OK it will print but will skip the tuning (bed leveling and Z adjustment), and the first layer of course is then all wrong.  What can I do to get the printer to recognize the Lightweight PLA Filament?

I figured out a way to do it.  I modified the Generic PLA filament that is included in the Prusa list of filaments to the Lightweight PLA filament specs and my MK4 printer was happy with that.

RE: Problem Printing with Lightweight PLA Filament

Hi,

I've just started to print directly from the 3dlabprint gcode on my mk4 so far it seams ok, but a little way to go. I tried slicing the models in Prusa slicer a few months ago but had all sorts of problems. Did your prints work ok?

If so I may try again as the gcode is not optimised for the MK4 and I'll be upgrading to MK4S soon so there may be some more advantages.

My prints are coming out OK on my MK4.  I'm using the most current PrusaSlicer (2.8.0).  I used the 3mf files and sliced them.  But first you need to look at the 3DLabPrint J3 Cub User Guide/Section 3 and click on the link to the PrusaSlicer.  Once you get into that website you will need to download the 3mf test files for the PLA and Lightweight PLA (click on the "Marlin compatible Direct Drive printer with build volume 200x200x200 mm" link).  Copy these two setup files into your PrusaSlicer.  There is a video at the top of this website that walks you through it.  Once you copy those setups into your PrusaSlicer you'll have the necessary settings for printing with Lightweight PLA.   Just make sure you are using the Light weight PLA settings for the Print Settings and the Filament.  This is where I ran into trouble with the Filament setting.  I first tried to use the 3DLabPrint filament name but my MK4 didn't like it (see my initial posting above).  I then used the Generic PLA off the list of filaments within the PrusaSlicer and modified the parameters to match the 3DLabPrint Light weight Filament parameters, and renamed the Generic PLA to indicate it was for Lightweight PLA, and that worked.  So far I have printed the fuselage and half the wing and all the prints are coming out OK.

RE: Problem Printing with Lightweight PLA Filament

Thanks for that Information, I've downloaded the setup files and followed a video I found on the website. I seem to be getting somewhere now. I was put of originally by the errors from the slicer relating to hundreds of open edges but it now seems to fix those, I noted on the video that similar errors appeared in their example. Still getting one error after slicing saying "there is an object with no extrusions on the first layer", but it has generated gcode and the display looks similar to the stock gcode. I cant see the legend in the slicer on this model but maybe thats normal for these settings. I'll keep at it.

Thanks again
