Power fail recovery question

I'm running the MK4/MMU3 with the current firmware.  I was running a long MMU print and had an error with a loose grub screw on the MMU3.  I could not reach it while the print was in 'fail/retry' mode and hoped that a power fail would allow me to fix the screw and continue the print.

I used the physical power switch on the MK4, powered it down, fixed my grub screw then powered it back on.  No power fail retry message came on.

So, is there a difference between pulling the plug and using the power switch?  Would pulling the plug create a power fail continue situation?  I had gone through many 'retries' before recognizing the error, could that have nullified the power fail recovery?

Thanks in advance.

Steve
