New to 3D printing

So I purchased an i3 mk3s bear edition used and it has been upgraded with a Phaetus Dragonfly BMO Hotend with a .04 nozzle and a super pinda.  My first print I attempted was the torture spider easy and I added Support and Brim as the software recommended but the print did not look very good at all, lots of strings and hair.  I tried to print something more simple and it failed completely.  The printer was telling me that my firmware was out of date, so I installed the newest firmware.   But no I'm learning that apparently because of the aftermarket hot end I can't run the stock firmware.  I can't get my z axis to calibrate now.  Does anyone have firmware that will work with my printer with the dragonfly hot end?

Always a huge problem buying modded equipment, you lose support and have no real idea what you've got.

Unless you are very lucky and find someone with the same mods your best option may be to return the printer to stock condition; enough users have upgraded towards 3.5/9 that there are plenty of second hand parts around in decent condition.  You may remod later but get it working first.

... and I suspect your filament was damp. Torture tests are intended to fail, the idea is to fnd out how far they get to use as a metric.

Cheerio,
