Mk4s Print/Cooling Fan Shroud has cracked -- How can I replace, print, or fix?

The shroud for the cooling fan on my Mk4s has cracked along one of the layer lines and I'd like to replace it, print a new one, or simply fix it (by gluing the two pieces together).

However,

  • The part doesn't seem to be available for ordering.
  • I don't see a model for this that I could print
  • I'm not sure what adhesive would be sufficient to glue it back together.

Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

They are on Printables.  Search MK4S and you'll find all of the printable parts.  I looked and the fan shroud is there.

Thanks. Apparently I didn't look hard enough!

This piece is really fragile - I bumped into it while changing the nozzle and it got damaged right away.

Be aware that without the shroud, the printer will fail the self test because the fan will not run at the expected speed

That's my problem.  A print failed and jammed the shroud and broke off the lower portion.  After clean up, the printer fan won't pass self-test as Richard explains above.  Now, how do I print a replacement?  Is there a way to override without causing damage?

RE:

I had a shroud break too, but I didn't have an issue because I was already through all the tests.

I really wish there was a way to bypass certain tests with a warning to the user, so you can get past issues where there isn't a safety issue, and the user is allowed to proceed.

I can only offer the advice that it must be an airflow issue, and you might try adding on something to direct the air around or even cupping your hand around the broken shroud during the test to see if you can create enough of the right airflow to pass so you can print again.  It's what I would try at least.  Looking forward to seeing your eventual solution. Good luck.

For what it's worth I don't think the fan is used with PCCF profile, which is what the shroud is made from.

So if you can figure out a way to get pay6 the self test you should be able to print a replacement.

I talked it over with tech support. They OK’d ignoring the warnings and proceeding with the print of a new shroud. I did not have any PCCF but I did have ASA.  They suggested that would be better than PTEG due to heat resistance. I do have an enclosure, and the print was perfect. 😀

And I should mention my first print after installing the new shroud was another shroud so I have a spare for the next time. 😉
