MK4S Homing Behavior with Firmware 6.1.3?
The homing behavior (G28 or via LCD "Auto Home") has changed a bit with various firmware versions, particularly as regards how many times the X and Y axis "bump" into their limits to determine the X=0 and Y=0 points. After upgrading to MK4S and firmware 6.1.3, I am seeing a new behavior and just wonder if it is typical.
I will describe what I am experiencing.
- For the first G28 or Auto-Home after power-on: The x-axis bumps 18 times on the left side, then the y-axis bumps 18 times at the rear.
- For all successive G28 or Auto-Home (until the next power-off), the x-axis bumps 2 times on the left side, then the y-axis bumps 2 times at the rear.
That behavior (18 bumps on first homing after power up, 2 bumps on all others) is consistent for me. Homing completes without error and proceeds to Z homing (2 taps on plate). Belt tension is good, X and Y move smoothly, and there are no obstructions. I even did a full "factory reset", went through all calibrations again, and still have the same behavior.
Is this "18 bumps" for first homing of X and Y typical with MK4s and firmware 6.1.3? What are others seeing?

I didn't count the number of bumps but it's definitely a lot more than it used to be.

Sounds like this reported firmware issue https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware-Buddy/issues/4185

Thanks, I saw that report and it does seem similar, so maybe it is the same issue. But what I am seeing is very consistent (always 18 "bumps", X and Y, and only on first print), whereas the discussion there includes a lot of variation. Maybe it is one issue and just behaves a little differently across different printers.
If everyone (with MK4/MK4S and 6.1.3) is seeing it, I am surprised there hasn't been any discussion here on the forums.

My two MK4 experience the same above mentioned behaviour before the very first print, after startup.
If anyone does have a clue, I would be very happy.
Thank you!

Same here. Right after starting up. Bangs like crazy in both axis. Mk4 6.1.3

Wonder if anyone is getting anywhere with this? Really annoying, yesterday it was banging away and suddenly reported a printer ‘collision with a red screen then cleared the message and went to work, this can’t be good for the unit?
RE: MK4S Homing Behavior with Firmware 6.1.3?
same. Does anybody "out there" experience the same with the beta fw 6.2?
RE: MK4S Homing Behavior with Firmware 6.1.3?
No change on my 2 systems running 6.2.

By no change I assume you mean it’s still banging away?
RE: MK4S Homing Behavior with Firmware 6.1.3?
Happily banging away indeed.

I like Prusa, but it is a real pain that they seem to simply ignore this nagging problem.
