Reset MK4 - Downsides - Instructions

My MK4 mostly prints PLA .stl files OK but lately free prints from trusted online sites (e.g. Printables, Maker World, etc.) have not printed well even though friends using MK4 printers had no trouble with the same settings I've used with those files. The thought was to reset my MK4. What are the downsides to resetting an MK4? Would you please share the link to ther step-by-step instructions? Thank you.

What do you mean by "not printed well"? What has changed in the print quality of your printer? Did you ever do a maintenance service on it? Perhaps that is necessary, e.g. lubricating the bearings and rods, checking if all the screws are tight, the belts have the correct tension and so on.

Hi Walter.... Certain prints of objects found on free sites like Maker World or Thingiverse print perfectly for friends who've been 3D printing for years and are very knowledgeable end up being dragged around my printer bed at 1% or 81% and with bed temp set at 70 degrees and other setting's set as my friend's are set to print well but mine does not. The thought was to re-set my printer (maybe to factory default??) but I've never done that  and wondered  what do you lose if you do a reset? Thank you for sharing that maintenance link as I was unaware of that maintenance (or forgot about it!)

RE: Reset MK4 - Downsides - Instructions

It is common that screws on a 3D printer get more loose and belts lose tension over time. This is caused by vibration during operation and the semi-fluid nature of plastic parts under stress. This has a direct impact on print quality, as the movements of the nozzle will become less precise. Dragging around of printed parts is caused by bad bed adhesion which can be the result of a build plate that needs a thorough cleaning. A reset of the printer will not improve print quality if the problem is caused by bad maintenance and/or bad bed adhesion on the printer. I would check and try to improve these things first. Good print quality is the result of exact kinematics and good bed adhesion. Resetting the printer will have no impact on those factors.
