PC Blend without warping

Hi,

After struggling twice printing this winglet holder with Prusament PC Blend I finally managed to get right, with minimal warping (approx. 1mm on right/left edge), which for my application is more than good enough:

winglet holder with minimal warping

The tricks were the following:

  • used PEI sheet without anything on it
  • printed a few clamps and clamped the PEI to the bed

However, I had to clamp the PEI to the bed because the part was lifting the sheet. And it's also true, I used an old PEI sheet which had a side that was already a little damaged (on the edge) so I wouldn't have cared if the experiment would have gone wrong. The Print left some visible traces but the sheet wasn't damaged and lifted relatively easily once it had cooled down. However, constant usage will certainly wear the sheet prematurely. I also believe the original MK4 enclosure helped a bit, but the temperature never exceeded 36 deg. Celsius. Anyway, I was quite impressed when I saw that the Model was able to lift the sheet and also the adherence of the material to the PEI was equally impressive ... But at the end the result counts.

cheers

David

RE: PC Blend without warping

An alternative point of view. I have been printing mainly PC Blend with my 4 (now 4s) in a prusa enclosure. The two things that made a difference for me:

- use skirts / pads (the parts that I print are shaped in a way that will cause the most horrible lift

- I print on the satin sheet with 3D Lac glue (it is a stick with fluid that dries up once applied)

The glue is what made the total difference and was something I learned in this forum. I have printed north of 150 parts without any distortion after I did the above.

Hi,

Thanks for your response. Indeed, I also came to your conclusion after reading the docs/posts and the first thing I tried was 3DLac with skirt and the print detached from the PEI sheet:

This particular design uses 4 vertical shells for strongness and is anyway extremely warp-prone due to its size, so it's probably more of an edge case application and I wanted to show how it is possible to achieve it with a reasonable result.
