MP4’s upgrade with prusa enclosure?

Ok folks ,received my upgrade kit this week, and sort of wondering if I should have passed on this one….

Looking for  those who may have attacked this  upgrade that use the prusa enclosure, as it’s obvious this thing needs to come out of the enclosure, which means pulling  the doors off, removing the psu, and the external led mount,  and not sure if the new led cover will remount to the outside of enclosure, the instructions are clearly written for a user with no enclosure, I guess you are supposed to just figure it out.

i have considered pulling the clear left side panel to gain access without pulling from the enclosure but it probably not a good solution I don’t know if there’s room enough to flip it over,

not to mention this printer has functioned flawlessly for a year plus now, suddenly I wonder if I should just leave the damned thing as  is , any tips or suggestions appreciated

Yes, it does come out and will mount to the outside. Follow the instructions in the Original Prusa Enclosure assembly (external display mounting) v1.03. I did mine without having to remove the door. I did this simultaneously with the quick disconnect upgrade.

thanks for your input, thinking the quick disconnect might be worth the switch. I am bit overwhelmed at the amount of fiddling required(I Was shocked at how much it took to get the printer into the enclosure, I should have figured as much),not a big fan of disassembling something that's working perfectly, altho I do like the printer in the enclosure better),  will order the disconnect and save the upgrade for a cold winter day

It is one upgrade I wish could be a standard option.

I received the upgrade also, but I'm a bit confused.  So many parts are upgraded to a higher-heat material. O.K.  But does this mean a MK4 can't be used in an enclosure because it doesn't have these high-heat parts??  If that is true, why doesn't Prusa say that?  Also, this upgrade, which is obviously aimed at an enclosure comes with a high-flow BRASS nozzle.  So if you have this enclosure, and you need these high-heat parts, wouldn't it be assumed you also need a hardened nozzle and not brass?  Strange. Prusa logic sometimes alludes me.

The enclosure heats up fast. I have only run pla, and lots of petg. I ventilate the cabinet from the top rear on 3” vent line with a inline fan to the outside it’s rated for 250 cfm  and I run at about half speed to keep the enclosure at about 84degrees f.With  doors closed. I suspect if you run engineering materials it would be significantly higher they must have seen melting, but hard to believe you would run difficult high temp materials without venting? For both heat and fumes.mine has been at work all day making stuff  So …

It's a piece of cake to get out of the enclosure.  2 screws for the LCD, disconnect it.  Turn the 4 quarter turn screws on the PSU, pull it into the enclosure and set it on the bed.  Then take the printer out the front of the enclosure.  You don't need to remove the doors.  Also if you did the top lid mod its even easier to lift it the top.

The whole procedure takes 5 minutes max.

  1. The nozzle material has nothing to do with the enclosure.  You only need a steel nozzle if your printing abrasive materials. The stock brass nozzle can handle and temperature the printer is capable of.

The high heat parts are really only necessary if your enclosure temperature gets above 45°C, which in most cases won't happen unless you actively heat the chamber or are insulating the enclosure.  I've been printing in the enclosure with an MK3S+ for over 2 years without issue.

But if your doing the upgrade you mide as well change them to the pccf parts.

I found that the enclosure doors were no longer able to close because the mount held the xLED too high.  I went ahead and designed and printed an adapter that would attach to the existing enclosure holes, but dropped the xLED down to a level where the doors would close.

Brian is right, it's easy to get out, once you know the drill.  You should have no trouble taking it out of the enclosure.

I added the quick disconnect yesterday, and it's worth the cost.  It will make it much easier to take out in the future, no fiddling with the power supply and the little pivot points holding it.  Just detach the cable from the back, unmount the LCD, and you can take it out.

The quick disconnect also comes a set of thumbscrews for the back of the LCD, which I did not expect, but will make taking the LCD off much easier.
