Mk4s keeps asking to change filament for no reason

Hi,

My Mk4s keeps asking to change filament for no reason. The most recent case of this https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/13490-prusa-i3-mk3s-black-psu-replacement-frame-brace-wi.

I´m using the latest slicer and firmware and made sure there are no changes in the file before slicing and the printer reports no changes.

Any ideas?

RE:

Could your filament sensor be stuck?

There is a small hole on top of the extruder.  You can blow air in there to clear any possible debris.

The next filament change text is normal. It tells you when the next change is due - if you have no change then it will have N/A under it - as in your image.

Does the printer actually stop and ask for filament to be changed??? If not, then there is no issue here, what you are seeing is normal.

Agreed, I was under the impression that the machine was prompting a filament change.

If the question is why does the screen show that then I agree, completely normal and there is no issue.

Hi,

1) The image was to show it wasn´t expecting a change in this print. It stops, parks, unloads the filament and ask for you to change it.

2) I have now turned off the filament sensor, if the issues goes away I know it´s this and will look to check it over and clean.

Thanks!

Did that fix your issue? I have the same issue. There is no filament change, but the printer stops, parks, asks me to unload the filament, then to reload the filament, then goes back to printing without issue.

Though sometimes the issue will arise again during a longer print. I had one day long print at it happened after 3 hours, then again after another 3 hours, then not again until about 3 hours before the print would end.  Everything printed fine, just annoying to have to go unload and reload the same filament during a print

Definitely sounds like your filament sensor is gunked up. Guide for cleaning.

Before doing this though, MAKE SURE you print the PG-assembly-adapter (printables, under Nextruder). This does not come with the printer, and is necessary for extruder re-assembly.

It might also be the beginning signs of a future total nozzle clog. I was getting this frequently printing a marble (black mica flecks?) filament in a 0.25mm nozzle so it was expected in my case. I think it was the strain gauge noticing too high a nozzle pressure when a piece of mica tried to block the tiny nozzle orifice in my case.
