Bed leveling and textured PEI sheet

Hello there !

I just finished building my Prusa MK4S (actually an upgrade from the MK3S I had) and I did a few prints that went really well.
I ordered a textured sheet to try it with the printer and I was wondering, do I need to specify any settings for the bed leveling with a textured sheet ? I read some reddits where people said the bed leveling has damaged there sheet.

Do you have any advices ?

I do NOT have any experience with the MK4 series.

However, I do know that with the MK3 series, the textured build plate (which I like, a lot) requires a lower Z distance than does the standard PEI build plate.  I understand that this is simplified quite a bit for the MK4, but I do not have any hands-on experience.

Textured and satin sheets are about 0.4mm thinner than smooth sheets, so on the Mk3 series you'd have to make adjustments for your live Z. With the Mk4 series, the load cell should take care of it.

Having said that, in my hands at least, my Mk4S require manual adjustments by about -0.03 when the print starts to get a good first layer, with anything but PLA. You can do that by long pressing the button on the display until the live adjustment tool pops up.

May or may not be necessary in your case, just give it a try. But no, no specific settings should be required.

My first MK4 was perfect with the first layer, however, since i upgraded to MK4S (and a new firmware) is also have some problems from time to time.

As there are some other issues with the MK4S I hope very much that the next firmware will solve all that problems.
Hope it will come out again.
I also had some contact with the service already. They are friendly and all, but not very helpful unfortunately ....

Hi ! Sorry for the late reply !

Well the printer took care of everything, I had nothing to do. Each time I printed my first layer was nice 🙂

Thank you for your answers!

I still have another question, what did you do with your old mk3s ? Do you have any ideas or projects I could recycle it in ?

Glad to hear that things are working well. Re old Mk3S: A couple of Mk3s I upgraded to Mk4. One I upgraded to a Mk3.5, a great upgrade which in many ways I actually enjoy more than the Mk4. It's used with a 0.8 mm nozzle to print specifically just one particular object I sell.
