REAL-filament PETG wont stick

Hi all,

Got my MK4S last week and already made some nice prints with Prusa PLA and Prusa PETG.

I have a roll of REAL-fil. PETG left-over that I used on my Anet-A6 and it worked really well.

Tried to print on the MK4S, using glue stick (that worked really well with the Prusa filament) but it just will

not stick to the bed where glue stick is applied. (@ 220C, 230C, 240C)

The little strip of nozzle-cleaning (?) in the left-front DOES stick and I can remove it easily without any gluestick applied there.

I'm a bit apprehensive to try it for the whole model (don't wanna ruine the PEI sheet)

What do you think I should do??

RE:

I have just upgraded my MK4 to MK4S and initially had the same problem with Amazon PETG: not sticking to bed. I upped the nozzle temp to 250 deg and it sorted it out. Now in the process of fine tuning the temp/extruder multiplier.....

It was dialled in at 236 deg with the MK4 but MK4S seems to need a higher temp, so try 250 deg.

Hi Carl,

Thanks for the reply.

I tried 250C but no change.

Please tell me:

  • what bed temp did you use?
  • did you use glue-stick?

Help appreciated.

First layer 85 deg, other layers 90 deg.  I have never used glue sticks on smooth or textured plates. Whenever I have a problem with the first layer not sticking its down to an unclean bed even if visually, the bed 'looks' clean.

I use IPA on the smooth plate and mild soapy water for the textured plate. A thorough clean sorts it out.

If you want that your smooth plate enjoys a long life, please use adhesive (not necessarily stick glue) for printing sticky filaments like PETG or TPU.

Otherwise, you risk damaging the PEI surface when you remove the prints form the plate, specially large models.

Hi Artur,

I am sure that is good advise. I use the smooth plate for PLA only and the textured plate for PETG only.

RE: REAL-filament PETG wont stick

Thanks for the advice. I'm afraid that minor damage has already been done but nothing too serious.

The solution I have now is 3DLAC. I forget the temperatures (think it was 60C 1st layer and then 70C) but they don't seem to matter all that much (printhead 240C). Perfect result.

So with this filament glue-stick doesn't work at all but 3DLAC works great. This brings me to the questions:

  1. Is glue stick for 1st layer adhesion or for release....or both?It seems to be very good at preventing 1st layer-adhesion with this filament.
  2. Same question for 3DLAC

Your thoughts?

Regards, Peter
