Print fan calibration fails

Hi All,

1 week ago I received my MK4S kit and started the build during the weekend. All looks very nice and the difference between the MK3S (my previous printer) and the MK4S are a big improvement. Although some of them are just - but a lot of - (small) details in the design. The big changes are in the printhead and electronics.

After assembly I started the 1st calibration - fan calibration. Unfortunately this one failed directly. The print fan reaches only 4800rpm but required a higher speed.

I tried (after updating the firmware to version 6.1.3):
- checking the cable loom
-checking the "love baord"
- multiple repeats of the calibration (with multiple I mean at least 50x) with mounted fan
- multiple factory resets (complete and calibration only - at least 10x) with mounted fan
- repeated the calibration and factory reset with dismounted fan

Contacting (the disappointing) support from Prusa directly --> no results, no action, no spare parts send until today (4 days later) and still unable to use a new printer. Even after the request to send a new fan and love board (on my own expenses), no reaction/action anymore.

So I continued my tests:
- very small test print of enclosure cover (1 pcs) in PLA -- > works
- very small test print of enclosure cover (1 pcs) in ASA -- > fails due to fan

Therefore I reach out to this forum. Has anyone experienced the same issue? Did you find a solution? Please let me know.

Thanks a lot in advance.

RE: Print fan calibration fails

Do you have the printer type in Settings -> Hardware set to MK4S? Just spit-balling here, but since the MK4 fan is different than the MK4S fan and the xBuddy board might default to MK4... I might be way off, but it's an easy check.

Hi Sembazuru,

Do you mean in the Prusa Slicer? Yes, I added the MK4S specifically.  If there is an other place to adjust, I have not done that and if that is the case, could you please let me know where I have to change this setting?

Thanks for your reply!

All the instructions are here: https://help.prusa3d.com/guide/6-preflight-check_754328

Specifically step 4, under settings -> hardware set printer type to MK4S.

For me it was the case that the fan did not pass the test when installed. When I hold the fan in my hand and do the test it passes. I did that and then reinstalled it.

Hi Jetro,

Thanks for the information, but that setting I checked at initial startup and is correct set to "MK4S". Unfortunately, not the solution to this issue.

Yeah, that was the setting that I was talking about. Sorry it didn't solve your issue.
