Preflight check gearbox ticking/grinding/squeal

Hi Everyone,

I have just completed assembly of my MK4S kit, and I am having issues with the gearbox alignment.

When I loosen the screws 1.5 turns and unclip the idler and proceed with the alignment, I see the gear spinning internally through the idler. There is a constant "ticking noise" (video attached). When I tighten the screws in the pattern the screen instructs, if I go to what I think is "snug", I hear hear the extruder motor stall out (grinding noise) and the gears stop turning.

Following that, I loosened and opened the gear cover and everything looked ok. I re-accomplished the gearbox alignment, this time barely snugging the screws per the screen direction. However, once filament was introduced there is filament stalls (stops feeding while trying to), squeals (video attached), and the motor stalled out during one filament removal.

I have only done filament install/removal at this point, I am scared to print something considering it might damage the printer.

Other notes: Idler tension set per the instructions, and gearbox is well lubricated.

Can anyone recommend troubleshooting steps from here?

Thank you!

Chris

RE: Preflight check gearbox ticking/grinding/squeal

Hi,

Well, I had time to undo/re-do Assembly Instructions 5. Nextruder Assembly, and it seems fixed now. I didn't see anything obviously wrong with the assembly, but this time I used more grease, and more effort in Step 10, Checking the PG-Assembly to ensure it rotated easily.
