Z Banding ??

This is not unique to the MK4, but that's the printer I have so I posted here.

My printer is well calibrated and for the most part my prints are near perfect.  On some prints, however, when there is a change in the structure, these terrible bands show that essentially ruin a really nice part.  On the attached pics you can see where the bands are, and where the part structure changes and how the changes match the bands exactly.  I've tried re-orienting the part, changing the seam and get the same results.  The bulk of the print is perfect... and then these bands wreck it.

I guess this is the wrong place to post this question... or the wrong question... or no one has ever has this issue.

Other options include,
Nobody knows what the issue is,
Maybe it's not Z banding
People have suspicions but don't want to feel silly if their suspicions prove incorrect.
Z  banding normally occurs with the same periodicity as the Z Axis leadscrew pitch, this issue  seems to have random periodicity.

could this be related to the Benchy Waterline issue?
