Slicing for MK3 vs MK4 - can I slice for both printers without any changes?

Hello! As for the topic - I currently run 10+ MK3S farm and I would love to slowly jump for the next generation but I am curious how many options do I need to change to slice the file for MK4 compared to my default slicing for MK3?

In my workflow sometimes I prepare multiple files and store them before I print, sometimes I slice and upload each file directly to the printer and I am worried that I will have to track which exacly file I have sliced for MK4 and keep a track for it.

Anyone can share some input about is the work environment made of most MK3 and one MK4 could be problematic? Can I run the file sliced for MK3? How much do I loose this way etc?

Good question. I would not use the G-codes prepared for my old MK3 again, but re-slice the original STl  file and export a new G-code for my MK4.

Whether it is necessary, I don't know, but maybe others can answer your question.

Try it out and see what happens using MK3 prepared G-codes directly on a MK4.

It is supposed to be possible 'though you may lose some of the MK4 feaures - See:

Caveat:  I have not tried it myself, My Mk3 is unchanged on the same bench as my XL, I do not have a Mk4.

To keep track of what is sliced for which put the printer model in the filename.

Cheerio,

RE:

I have for several years mainly used my MK3 for printing my sculptures with Colorfab's bronzefill and has never bothered puttingvethe printer in the filename. Now where my new MK4 is up and working  I will re-slice all my MK3 Gcodes whenever I use them and will  follow your advice to add the printer name.

MK4 is,, by the way another World of 3D printer:, fast, silent (relatively) with extreme quality of print especially due to its automatic calibration features performed before each print like a Russian ballet dancer !

Building it from a kit, took time and efforts especially for someone who just hates jelly bears !!
