Printing Silk - Lifting issue

Has anyone found that silk PLA doesn't print as well as regular PLA?  I've only been printing for a week with my MK4 so I don't have much experience.  I'm using a 215 nozzle and 60 bed and two of my silk rolls don't want to stick.   I'm printing a model with some small pieces.  All my other PLA from various mfg have no issues.

Thanks for any insight,

Doug

hi Doug,

do you have a photograph of the first layer of a silk filament print?

first layer issues are generally caused by:

poor first layer calibration,
contaminated build plate
build plate temperature
or a combination of the above

with a mk4 first layer calibration, should not be an issue...

MK3/Mini only, but my experience is that the "silk" filaments hold to the smooth plate maybe even too well, I managed to tear a bit of the top layer off my plate after a run of golden silk cake toppers - but it may depend on what brand it is.

I print a fair amount of silk filament and found it to print best 5 to 10 degrees hotter than regula PLA. Having said that, I never noticed any particular adhesion issues so I'd make sure the sheet is cleaned thoroughly.

Thanks for all the replies.  I didn't take photos.  I was printing an articulated lizard.  The parts that didn't stick were the very small parts of the feet put down on the first layer.  I'm going to turn up my bed and nozzle temps and then try again.  I'll post what I find.

Thanks again for the replies.  I found the solution to be printing at a higher temp.  I also increased bed temp to 65 but I'm not sure that was necessary.  I printed a temp tower and found that at 215 the filament was not working.  Not sure if it was extrusion issue or layer adhesion but the nozzle knocked the tower off the base at 215.  220 printed fine.  I started at 230 and ended at 215.  So glad this worked since I'm new I have a tendency to worry a lot 🙂
