Printing face is not flat (at the start of the layer)

3. Issue 1.Start layer in Prusa 2. Issue2. Start Layer in Prusa3. Issue

Dear everyone,

I am completely at a loss as to what is happening and how to fix it. Since a few days, the MK4s is printing weird. At the start of a new layer, the extrusion does not seem correct. However, this is nog found in the tree supports that are used (and printed before the main layer).

I do not know what is going on, or how I can fix this. Who can help me?

Kind regards!

Please save your project as a .3mf file

Files > Save Project as

Zip the .3mf and post it here. It will contain both your part and your settings for us to diagnose.

On top of what Diem sayd you can view at your filament path. I had similar problems when I switched on a new spool. The spool was so big that the filament in the drybox was too much towards the outtake and forced the extruder to push harder sometimes (not always). This lead into underextrusion in some small areas as shown in your picture.

What do you mean with filament path? My filament is on the delivered spool holder and can work without issue. I can try a different filament, I have a new box of prusa vanilla white laying around, could that be? The filament is normal and does not look different/seem brittle. I have printed with the same spool a few days prior with no issue.

I am working with the standard settings for the input shaper on 0,10 fast detail; 5% infill and supports set to organic only on the bed. No further changes.

I have already tried printing the pard again and orienting it 45deg differently; but the same thing happens (but not at the same location, always at the start of a layer).

The filament path is the whole path the filament goes from the spool to the extruder gear. It may not be too long, not bend too much and may not have edges where the filament may get hooked. If you are going with the standard-setup and do not bend the PTFE tubes too much you should be fine. You may check if the rollers move freely.

If you have printed with the same spool days before does not mean it may not be wet today. There may be a small gap in your storage area that can cause humid areas only on a single spot of your filament. Dry your filament before printing. Trying another spool can be done but drying the old may be the better solution since the new spool can also be wet.

Did you change the nozzle in the past days? Is the nextruder lubed and working correctly? Tension correct?

You may provide the .3mf. Maybe Diem is able to find the error in it (not only the settings can contain errors).

Extrusion Issue

There you go. I have added a snippet which I used to test settings. I has happened on this snippet as well.

I have not changed the nozzle. The nextruder is clean and working correctly. Tension is correct as well.

I would love to know if you can figure it out!

Kind regards

Some sort of architectural model ... I see little on this snippet to justify the 0.1mm layers except the arches; if they are not too critical I would try a 0.2mm setting which will reduce the hotend time.   I would also dry the filament before printing - have you  tried a different (coloured) filament?  White is often tricky, sometimes aproaching non-newtonian due to the amount of pigment, so increasing its print temperature by 5° - 10° often helps.

Not your problem - but snug supports might be a better choice here.
