Printing 1cm thick panel - never ending warping and bed separation issues - PLA
Hi,
I normally have very trouble free printing on my Mk4. But for the life of me, I cannot get a 10mm thick panel to print without it warping on the last 1-2 top layers and the corners bowing up and starting a nozzle collision with the part.
I'm using eSun PLA+ (normally found eSun filament to be very stable).
I tried breaking the panel, which is nearly the full bed size, into 1/4 sections to be pinned and superglued together afterwards. Even that failed.
I'm using variable layer height, 0.4 nozzle, Smooth PEI bed plate. I do not yet have an enclosure for my printer, but the ambient room air was warm - around 21C, no draughts.
I've reduced the top layers to just 3 and tried an aligned rectilinear infill to reduce pulling on the part in the longer direction.
I have washed my PEI plate in washing up liquid, hot water, light scrub with a non stick scourer pad and wiped down with isopropyl alcohol as I usually do between prints.
What do I try next? (The waste from failures is getting a bit expensive).
Brim?
Glue Stick (I never wanted to go down this route as I like my print plates clean, but if it would help - maybe)
Different filament (maybe even PETG?)
The only other two thoughts I have is:
Print the part on edge - but we'll still have length to warp
Break the part into a rim, and two skins that clip together with a drop of glue.
Many thanks for any suggestions...

I had posted pics with that - not showing for me...

Hairspray on the build surface. Sounds silly but works like a charm.

Thanks Annie. I'll try that 👍️
What should I use to clean it off afterwards - isopropyl or acetone (I have both)?
Thank you so much.

I suggest to print in at an angle of 45 degrees. Use support painter to put some supports (but not many) so it does not fall.
Have a look at this video for explanation.:
We will do what we have always done. We will find hope in the impossible.

That's very interesting - thanks for that. A very unique idea!

Alcohol takes it right off

If hairspray (aquanet is a popular one for this) doesn't work, the 45 degree printing orientation in the video above is best done with a designed support 'wing' rather than supports in the slicer. Slicer supports will have clearance, and you will get wobble. I've successfully used the designed support idea with the recommended small connecting tabs. You'll need to know how to do this in the model.
I've attached a pic of a part I designed for work and printed this way.
