Octagram Spiral, is this over-extrusion?

hi,

i am playing with different top infills, and tried octogram spiral.  i noticed that i get thicker/thinner lines that ruin the looks of the over all print, and was wondering if anyone knew why?

i get the thicker lines when the tool path comes back and fills in a gap.  this final line squeezes in there, and i get a ridge.  thats why i was thinking that this was over-extrusion, as there seems to be too much filament.  i dropped my extrusion multiplier from 1 to .95, and it did make a difference, but I am not sure that is the right way to fix it.

there is nothing special about the object, just a square with 3 layers to test top infills
