Nextruder messing up prints on filal massive layers by jamming flex filament

Hi,

I have some Flex-Projects running and have permanent issues with the nextruder jamming with the filament starting the final massive layers of a print. The MK3 does the job flawlessly (see picture left print). The right part got ruined by a jammed filament in the MK4 nextruder. This happens frequently. I tried different nozzle diameters (0.4 & 0.6), speeds (15-30mm/s) and temperatures (230-250) - nothing solved the issue.I do not even think it is a matter of the nextruder itself, as it printed the rest of the object flawlessly with different speeds (above 30mm/s) and all nozzle diameters. Is Prusaslicer doing funny stuff to initiate massive layers?

Maybe someone has an idea

Joerg

There’s a similar thread on the XL-multitool forum.  I think the ability of the Nextruder being able to print TPU easily was exaggerated.

Are you hearing “the click of death”?  Is the filament jamming at the bottom just before the nozzle barrel?

I think there’s too much variation in the part of the Nextruder that’s just above the nozzle that is making everyone’s experience with TPU different.  I’m looking to see how to disassemble the Nextruder and see if I can print that piece in resin to get that feed path as smooth and precise as possible.

Some things to try:

- try printing at a snails pace, but that might not work with the top layer since it won’t bridge well

- get a foam pad or something to clean the filament of debris that might get into the nozzle

- feed the TPU directly into the top Nextruder, bypassing the PFTE tube

- dry the filament, but your print on the left looks like it was dry

- add some silicone oil to the filament cleaning pad

- clean the nozzle barrel

- increase the pressure on the filaments by adjusting the idler screws

- sacrifice a goat

I have the 5 tool XL and all 5 tools have very different chances of jamming.  I have two that will even jam when the printer tries purging filament!  I have one tool that almost never jams with TPU.  I using the same TPU (Ninjaflex) on all tools.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes indeed , there is that click-of-death - now I have a word for that to look for! I am quite sure that this is a gcode issue.
I reduced the print speed for that particular prints - solved the print but not the issue. I have thre MK4 and one nextruder doesn't even feed the TPU out of the nozzle - I can even pull the filament out easily by hand when it is in the gear down to the nozzle. Quite weird.
