@mixer3d how can I install 2.7.2 alpha-2 version then?

Thanks

RE: Layer shifting and odd "stringing" issues

Just read through the release notes for alpha-2 and didn't see any mention about fixing random layer shifts.  I have a hard time believing it's a slicer issue since the shifts happen in different places with the exact same Gcode.  Doesn't that a point to something in the printer firmware and not the slicer?

Yes, it could realistically be...even if Prusa escludes this.

But it's not the 1st itme, nor the last, that doing what they exclude, solves the issue.

I have the feeling it could be a slicer issue or a firmware issue. Ive printed so many parts with same filament, same IS (end before too), same printer and never had this layer shift from 1 layer to the next. I also noticed there's no jam or resistence since last time it did I was watching the printing for coincidence...it really seems that printer head is driven to a shifted X/Y position at the beginning of the new layer or even during it.

Again, I see it happen every time at different Z height position too...

Anyway, I just re-sliced same part with 2.7.2 alpha-2 and reprinting...let's see what happens...

RE: Layer shifting and odd "stringing" issues

So, good news:

1) I've installed Prusa Slicer 2.7.2 alpha-2

2) without touching anything I printed the same part 2 times : perfect , no more layer shift during the print

3) in my case - in opposition to all Prusa chat support that was continuing to point the finger to my filament parameters, or other things I told them I already had checked and checked again - the solution has been that current stable Prusa Slicer 2.7.1 was generating this issue on this specific part, that has nothing different by many other printed, included one that is simply mirrored.

I hope Prusa will listen a little bit more to customer on the supprt chat.

This is encouraging.  Which IS are you using, STRUCTURE or SPEED?

RE:

Hi @altruego @denis-ferrari so only after you update slicer,  the new config can be pulled and enabled (it will not work with older version which is explicitly defined in the latest config file:

min_slic3r_version = 2.7.2-alpha2
1.12.0-alpha1 Updated MK3.5MMU3 profiles. Decreased loading distance.
1.12.0-alpha0 Enabled ramping z-hop for MK4/MK3.9. Added initial profiles for Original Prusa MK3.5 MMU3.

And the "Enable ramping z-hop"  i think it's solving issue (When the nozzle hits the material at high accelerations) maybe they will add somethnig similar to mini also, where i can had the same thing from time to time from the same reason.

Besides they wrote about some issue with layer shift in the blog recently, not related to the slicer directly, but still...

Layer shifts – In our testing, we had problems with random layer shifts. These were quite rare, but since the print cannot be saved if the problem occurs, they were very annoying to encounter. The prints were clean with nothing the nozzle could crash into. The culprit turned out to be a bug in the firmware, occurring only when the MMU unit is connected. We believe we have fixed the problem in our latest internal firmware build. We continue to investigate the issue, to make sure the problem is completely eliminated.

Hi @msg56 I tried on SPEED and so far so good.  When I make more prints I'll verify it.

So, this new z-hop feature is already included and active if installing the 2.7.2 alpha-2 like I did, correct? Or I still need to activate it? If so, how...

Thanks

I'm a bit lost here...

How can I install the new version 2.7.2 alpha-2?

Is it safe to print with it? I'm not an IT expert...

Thanks

You don't need to install it. Simply download it from Github, unzip it and run the .exe. If you are using Windows. The settings will be taken over by your Prusa Slicer and saved in an extra folder.  I haven't had any problems with alpha or beta versions of Prusa Slicer so far.

RE: Layer shifting and odd "stringing" issues

I have the exact same problem, besides calibrating the x-axis is driving me crazy, I did a lot of tries, since I have to repeat the same print a couple of times. What happened:

- sometimes everything runs through smoothly.

- sometimes I have a layer shift on the x-axis. No particular layer. Sometimes 20th, sometimes 100th. The shift is sometimes 1cm and sometimes just 2-3mm.

I also used factory settings in Prusa slicer (both slicer and printer are on the latest version); I re-generated the gcode couple of times and then tried 3-4 times with the same code. Same result: sometimes it is working fine, but then again it is shifting the layer. I also stopped printing with IS, since this is just messing up everything even faster.

I have the feeling that is related to the calibration. The tension of the belt is strange. When I tighten it to the same level as the y-belt, the calibration is going crazy. So I slowly go back to loosen it and it only works, when the x belt is quite loose IMHO.

I think I already followed all the instructions and ideas on the x axis calibration that I've found. This is really frustrating...

RE: Layer shifting and odd "stringing" issues

I changed to the NonIS profile and the layering failures quit.

MK4 on 5.1.2 firmare using PrusaSlicer 2.7.1 , a 0.25 nozzle, 0.2 layer height, 4 perimeters, 40% Gryoid infill, random seams, Prusament  or Jessie PETG.

MK4 passes all calibration tests, belt tension within specifications of belt tuner app.

I could never print successfully above ~100 mm Z height, irrespective of part geometry.

Y axis layer shifting to the rear at random Z levels was intermittent.

I thought maybe the culprit was excessive globs left during infill printing but could not ever witness the layer shift failure.
