How to use 2Kg reels of filament?!

Sorry, I'm a relative noob to the world of 3D printing. Got my first printer a week ago - MK4 kit - and after building a few hours a night, pleased to say its up and running and "just works". Run a couple of tests with PLA that were flawless. Really pleased.

Now, I'm wanting to print some models I've made in Sketchup using PETG and got stuck: I've got a 2Kg reel of prusament and no idea where/how to mount the reel. Its too big for the standard filament reel holders included with the machine and I can't find any alternative (yet.)

What am I missing?!

I'm an idiot. Tried a different search and found this: 2KG spool holder by Vydareny | Download free STL model | Printables.com

Problem solved!

Probably this 😀

This is, however, not exactly compatible due to how tall the nextruder is on a MK4. Might need some adjustements.

EDIT:

I've found this adapter for a MK4 spool holder, this one is fully compatible:

Prusa has two solutions for that.

Which you can find here .

Went with the solution I found and it works a treat - printed in Prusament PETG in Prusa Orange so it looks almost standard. Nice quick and easy print too.

Problem solved.

I like this solution best as well - more support for the extra weight.

You are lucky that it's a 'sane' 2kg spool size.

A few years ago I ordered a 2kg spool from FilamentPM, and I expected to just get one of those fat normal size spools.  Nope!  It was on this huge honking spool which reminded me of a tire for a small car!  Nothing I had would work with it.  I even tried straddling it on two of those MK2S spool holders - nope.

I ended up respooling it on normal spools.  That was a pain.

I just downloaded the standard single sided toolholder, stretched it a bit taller and printed in PETG.  It works well and I've leave it in place for regular spools as well that just sit a little higher.

Cheerio,
