RE: Heatbreak fan might be causing ASA/ABS warping
Agreed, I want to reach the same performance of my MK3S where I was printing ABS/ASA without brim, mouse ear, etc....just the enclosure and high temp bed.
Has anyone tried to level the bed? I am afraid that the calibration performed by the printer each time is not so effective
RE: Heatbreak fan might be causing ASA/ABS warping
I was chatting with support and they suggest the following things:
- increase bed temperature of 5-10C
- increase nozzle temp of the first layer by 5-10C
- reduce first layer heigh to 0.1 and the rest of the print 0.2
I will try those changes but reading online seems to have better adhesion is better to have a ticker first layer rather then thin, anyone tried in the past?
RE: Heatbreak fan might be causing ASA/ABS warping
I have done more prints and all of them failed (some more some less). Below is what I tried (all of them using textured sheet):
- increase bed temp of 5 degrees, the ASA was too soft on the sheet and still warped
- reduce Z height of -0.1 and -0.25 and still warped. -0.25 warped less but the quality of the print of the first layer was enough bad.
- First layer 0.1 and 0.3 and the rest of the layers 0.2. Still warped the same
- First layer +5C but still warped the same
I am going to try satin sheet and see if it warps less considering there is more surface to adhere.
Has anyone found other things?
RE: Heatbreak fan might be causing ASA/ABS warping
Updates:
I have been half happy by replacing only the sheet with the satin one. It looks like the satin sheet (vs the textured one) allows the material to have more surface for adhesion. Just by changing the sheet (without changing temp, Z height, etc.) I was able to reach very good results on half of the parts I normally print. The other half still warps like before...
RE: Heatbreak fan might be causing ASA/ABS warping
Update for everyone, for now, I fixed all my problems by leveling the bed using this guide:
https://www.printables.com/model/562085-prusa-mk4-bed-level-check
I used 0.1mm shims and, after so many tries, I was able to reach my delta (max-min height) down to 0.04mm on one side of the textured plate, and 0.06mm on the other side. After that I start printing again different parts and they are coming everytime very very good. I suggested Prusa on GitHub to actually make a prusa-wizard to perform this leveling which is by far the most important piece of the entire calibration for avoiding warped pieces
I will continue to post my findings

RE: Heatbreak fan might be causing ASA/ABS warping
What difference did you have at the beginning? For me it is 0.35 mm. But I also have no problems with warping.
RE: Heatbreak fan might be causing ASA/ABS warping
I am perfectly printing PLA with 0.2mm layer height everywhere. 215C first layer, 200C others. 65C bed all the time
The big change was leveling the bed, all the other settings do not do too much (I am still investingating)
RE: Heatbreak fan might be causing ASA/ABS warping
I've noticed the same problem when printing a part about half the size of a playing card with rounded corners. On my MK3S+ same satin sheet, same enclosure I get zero warping. I'm going to try the fan shroud and see if it helps.
RE: Heatbreak fan might be causing ASA/ABS warping
The only thing that helped for me is to level the bed with 0.1mm washers....slow process it took me an entire morning but after that everything was fine. Not issues after that regarding warping.
RE: Heatbreak fan might be causing ASA/ABS warping
I tried another print today with the model having a base approximately 2.5" x 2.5" square with rounded corners. I used ASA with the Prusament ASA default settings, gyroid infill (15%). Even with the fan shroud I am still getting a bit of lifting in the front left and rear left corners, with the front left being the worse of the two. For this model I also got similar lifting on my MK3S+ though, so at least the MK4 in this case seems to be about on par with the older printer.
RE: Heatbreak fan might be causing ASA/ABS warping
I've been struggling with ASA warping in my enclosure pre-heated to ~30C. Then I found this thread. Printed a fan shroud last night and printed a couple things so far with no warping. Hopefully it stays that way!
RE: Heatbreak fan might be causing ASA/ABS warping
I've been able to solve my ASA warping problems by switching from the satin sheet to the smooth sheet and using a bit of Magigoo. Even with a glue stick or Magigoo the satin sheet just would not stick well enough, but with the smooth sheet I haven't had any warping issues as the part stays stuck down.
