RTFM, eh? Thanks very much.
I did find the answer there, but only in the user comments at the bottom: apparently users cannot change their names and passwords! I don't really believe that, but it seems to be true as I've now found feature requests on GitHub asking for the ability to do what any user would expect.

Not having the ability to change user name and password is a security bug. I think feature request is the wrong category. It's December now; has it been fixed yet?

100% Having the user be fixed to "maker" is bad enough, but not being able to change the password just seems short-sighted. My guess is that the password is actually the printer's serial number obfuscated by some algorithm.

My MK4 is a really good printer and it has done good printing for me, but I can't help thinking that re-wiring it to work from one of my Duet boards so that I can return to RepRap firmware would be worthwhile. The password thing is a major annoyance, but that pales into insignificance compared to the minimal control that I have over the machine remotely (and even locally!).
