Tight USB port

Loving the Mk4.......everything seems to be working fine except the USB port is a very tight fit for any USB stick that I try.
I note too that it has to be firmly pushed in to be read.

Is this just the way it is or should the USB port be a looser fit?

I found it to be a tight fit too. Took me a bit to figure out that I have so seriously push the stick in but once you know it, no big deal.

RE: Tight USB port

I too have a very tight USB port, so much so I thought it may have been faulty. Still seriously tight.

Mine is also very tight - almost to the point of feeling defective. But there is no problem with it being read, in fact, the printer starts reading the stick before I've managed to push it all the way in.

RE: Tight USB port

As others have said, I found the port on my mk4 extremely tight.  Tried a couple different USB sticks and had the same issue, so it is definitely the port.  It did seem to loosen up a little bit after quite a bit of removing/inserting, but still tighter than most.

RE: Tight USB port

Yep, as everyone else has said, this seems to be normal for the Mk4.

Super tight here too, to the point I think it may break solder connections off the board. I have to wiggle it in to get it to seat properly.

RE: Tight USB port

Mine is pretty tight as well.  I think I'll make a short USB extension so as to minimize wear and tear on the board.

RE: Tight USB port

I think mine were so tight that the drive bent my USB contacts.  I had to get a replacement LCD board.  My replacement was very tight as well.

I bought one of these - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00S2N2Q4U

Strangely enough the cable fitted fine in the display USB, but the ADATA Prusa stick was still tight in the female end of the cable.

RE: Tight USB port

Mine was also very tight, so as other people have have suggested I got a short USB cable to leave continually plugged in, but I also wrap it around the pole on my stand that my printer is on, so when putting it in and out there is no residual wiggling going back to the USB socket on the printer

RE: Tight USB port

I connected a short USB extension cable to the printer's USB port to save the port from all the plugging/unplugging (that's cheaper to replace than a broken display board)  See: https://www.printables.com/model/560183-usb-mount-under-prusa-enclosure for one idea to make this more convenient.

RE:

After a good number of insertions and removals (30? 40?), the port on my MK4 works smoothly now.  Perhaps still a little on the "firm" side, but no more so than on some computers -- and certainly does not feel like I have to "force" it at all.  I think it just needed to "wear in" a bit.

I have mainly switched to using Octoprint for 90% of my prints, but still have to use the USB stick for really long prints because the MK4 firmware does not yet report "filament out" to Octoprint.
