Powering the Buddy 3d Camera .....

Hi everyone! 😊

I’ve got my MK4 set up in a Prusa enclosure, and I’m wondering about powering the Buddy 3d Camera that prusa is selling. If I plug it into the USB-C port on the xBuddy board, will that be enough to power it?

Thanks in advance for any advice! 🚀

That USB C port on the xBuddy board is just for feeding serial Data in, not for putting power out. Because this has been asked a few times now, I just checked the port with a USB power meter: no power output there.

Thanks for the feedback.
In my opinion its pretty stupid offering a product like the camera and then you would need another source to power the device.

It's hard to believe. I ordered one thinking it must integrate into the machine somehow. In this current market, it's remarkable they failed to consider a future camera integration into their design. I've yet to use it, and I'm considering returning it.

Yeah, it's pretty disappointing.  That explains why it was tossed in for free with my XL.

The 3 PSU from the XL has more then enough power to supply the cam. I guess the MK4 will also be able to supply the buddy 3D.

I decided to make an own integration for that issue:

I plan to power my pi zero cam in my prusa enclosure for the MK4 from the 3rd connector labeled as "extension" in Basic Board and PSU for Original Prusa Enclosure (for Filtration unit and LED). I have the LED and filter so I have this board also and hope the extension socket delivers constant 24V power at 1A minimum. I did buy a 60cm connection cable with the clickmate 1.5mm 4pin plugs installed from farnell.
I plan to cut one sides connector and power a 1A 5V step-down module from the extension socket to power my pi zero. I think it might work well and 1A is enough to power this pi zero.
I do not know the power requirements for the Buddy3D cam, but it might be worth a try.
