Opening case of buddy board
I got my new prebuilt MK4 and immediately set it up in the official enclosure. I thought everything went well but I'm getting a power panic alert on boot. I'm trying to check the cable but can't find instructions on how to get access to the buddy board. Is there a KB article or something that I've missed? I am willing to go backwards through the build instructions but I wanted to ask here first.

You need a long Allen key 2.5 mm to remove the 2 screws in the plate marked "PRUSA" that covers the power cables. Then you can remove the 4 screws of the xBuddy cover to check if all the plugs are well connected.
Just to be sure: do this without the power supply connected!! 🙂

Did you power on the MK4 before you de-mounted the PSU and cables to put in the enclosure?

Power panic is the cable with the white connector above where the ground cables (green/yellow) connect to the board. It may have one or two wires.

I did not turn it on first. The wires looked okay but I'm still getting the alarm, so I updated to the 5.0 Alpha 4 and now I'm just stuck in it booting and not fully loading.

FYI Prusa has pretty good support, you may want to contact them.
Did you measure continuity of the power panic wires?
Also, 5.0.0 alpha 4 is old firmware. 5.0.0 RC replaced it. It’s likely that 5.0.0 will be released as a stable version in the next week or two.
But this almost sounds like a bad flash. I’d personally try flashing the 5.0.0 RC. If that doesn’t work you can try reflashing with a different USB drive to rule out a bad USB drive causing a bad flash.
And that said, but newer firmware shouldn’t cause a power panic to go away. There were no issues I heard about with 4.7.1 or 4.7.2 with regards to incorrect power panic messages.

The issue with the power panic cable is that I had accidentally pulled it off the buddy board while moving the cables for the enclosure and didn't know it until I opened the box. But then I managed to break the pins on the board trying to plug it back in. So now the system--and the 5.0 RC is otherwise booting properly, thank you for the update--goes into the power panic warning screen and refuses to proceed further. I'm toying with the idea of getting some additional wire, splicing in, and soldering directly to the board but I'd really rather just disable the entire power panic system if possible and get a proper UPS for it.
