Nozzle gouging build plate MK4

Hi all

I have a MK4 that I ordered right when it was available. Print quality for the most part has been great. I do seem to have an issue though that randomly happens. For some reason the nozzle will gouge the build plate during first layer to the point it has ruined 1 build plate so far. This problem just happened again with a print that has been printed a couple times before with no issue. It first happened while running factory firmware and while using 4.6.1 firmware too. It almost seems like the load sensor does not detect load correctly randomly. Anyone else having an issue like this?

I had it once after the Z homing failed, gouge was in the purge line area. Take some photos and send them to the Prusa support team who will take care of you.

Hi All

Talked with support and they had me calibrate Z, do a nozzle touch test, and then a mesh bed level. Did a print after and printing fine but the issue seems to be random and was not all the time. Will keep printing and update if it happens again. Here are pics of the build plates it has happened on, was not in purge area but during print of first layer.

Thank You

RE:

Same thing happening to me.  Using alpha firmware for Input Shaper.  PS beta 4.  Once the pre-print sensor routine did not appear at all normal.  At every point it would try and then do a spiral around the point.  Very slow, 6 minutes or so.  And then dug into purge line and the start of the print.  Ruined the sheet for cosmetic prints.

Second time the same file from a cold start.  Pre-print routine appeared normal.  But then dug into the purge line and the print.  Appeared to bend and twist nozzle unit as it did it.  Not sure if that is accurate or not.

At the very beginning, the sensor test before moving on to the test around the print area, should the nozzle be pushing down hard into the sheet?  It visibly moves the whole print bed down.  Doesn't seem right to me.

Yeah just tried the pre-sliced Spatula IS and it did the same thing.  Pushes so hard that the nozzle twists.  Unless the twisting is part of the load cell process?

RE: Nozzle gouging build plate MK4

SOLVED for me.  The thumbscrews for the nozzle had come loose mid-print dropping the entire nozzle throat a bit.  Pushing the nozzle as far up as possible and tightening the two thumbscrews has, thus far, completely resolved this issue.
