Newbie here with a firmware issue

I am at the firmware up date stage of the assembly and I downloaded the latest version on my pc but when I try and move it to the flash drive I get an error message that some properties can't be moved.

I haven't powered up the printer yet and I have no idea what version of the software I have. I've had the printer since late this summer so I'm assuming it isn't the latest version and after reading the issues some of you folks are having I'm wondering if I should leave it alone for now.

Version 4.7.1 is on the flash drive.

RE: Newbie here with a firmware issue

I'm of the opinion that for every one person posting about IS issues on this forum, there are many thousands of users happily jamming away using the latest FW without a hitch.  My printer came with 5.0.0 (IS) and I skipped the alphas, but updated both slicer and FW when 5.1.0 was released.  No problems whatsoever on either FW old or new.  I suspect that in many of the cases of reported trouble with FW, there is some hardware issue behind the scenes at play as well. It is up to you whether you want to initiate the printer and run first prints on the original FW before updating.  It shouldn't hurt either way.  I will say that you'll ultimately want the new FW though.  It has ease of use improvements that you'll enjoy such as far quicker connection to Wi-Fi, and eliminating booting up to the most recent file instead of straight to the the menu.  In my experience on my own kit built mk4, there doesn't seem to be inherent problems with 5.1.0.

I don't fully understand your question about "properties not being able to move."  Are you saying that you cannot copy the single FW file to the USB drive?  If so, that sounds like a general computer issue.  The PC's only interaction with the file should be to download it and then copy it to the USB, no different than handling a PDF.  I could be misunderstanding your question though.

What computer do you use - could it be that it's a Mac or a Linux box? In that case, the error probably just means that the user permissions for the file can't be copied to the stick because the FAT32 format does not support them. That would not be a problem, just go ahead with flashing the firmware.

longer story shorter, yes just copy it, you can also rename it, for example to remove spaces in the name and "(2)" or just rename to `firmware.bbf` or something like that
