It does fit the frame but you will need the upgrade kit to mmu3 from mmu2 most likely

From what I could tell by the info they have given, MMU2 is not forward compatible (as-is) with MK4.  However, the MMU3 will be backward compatible with the MK3S.  I suspect this is because the MK4 is expecting two-way communication with the MMU which MMU2 does not do.  To make it backward compatible, probably all they have to do is not connect that extra communication option.

My understanding is that MMU2 will get the same firmware as MMU3, so it will be compatible with MK4 at that point. Note - this MMU firmware is not yet released.

I say that because new MK3* firmware (number 3.13) will ONLY support new MMU* firmware. That requirement is already in MK3 branch (future 3.13) of firmware on github.

I agree it sounded like the MMU2S would get the new firmware but I'm wondering if the "updated electronics" for the MMU3 will be required to work with MK4.  It seems unclear at this point but from what I read, it sounds like MMU2S won't work with MK4 for whatever reason, even after a firmware upgrade.  I hope I'm wrong and you're right for the sake of people who have working MMU2S setups and don't want to shell out the cost of the upgrade on top of spending so much for an MK4.  I guess we'll get more info as the MMU3 release approaches.

WOW this confirm my choice to cancel the MK3S->MK4 upgrade kit to keep it as it is, and order a new complete MK4 kit was a good choice.

So I will have two printers, one to use with the MMU2 until the MMU3 will be released , and then the new MK4. I happy because the MMU3 will probably appears around 4th quarter 2023 or even later. 🙄
