Mk4 printing a single layer wider than all others

I have a Prusa-built Mk4 that has started doing something strange. It looks like a single layer about 1/2 way up the print it being printed wider than all of the other layers. This happens using the input shaping and regular profiles. After printing the one layer wider, it goes back to normal printing. The wide line extends around the entire perimeter of the print and is also inside pockets that extend up into the print.

This started happening about a week ago. I'm using Polymaker Polylite PLA Orange. It's happened with multiple spools of filement and when I switch a roll that had to a Prusa Mini, it prints without issue.

You can see it in these photos.

Any ideas?

Thx! -mj

RE: Mk4 printing a single layer wider than all others

Hello!

I had an issue that seems rather similar.

For me the problem was a (probably) faulty USB pendrive. The gcode on it was corrupted and I could not open it with PrusaSlicer.

This is the link to the post I wrote about it, and if you scroll down, the dice pictures looks the same as yours: Strange horizontal lines on MK4 prints

You say that with a spool you had on the MINI, the line didn't happen. Was it the same gcode as before? If yes, it's probably not the same issue I had.
If it is, in fact, the same issue, opening the gcode with PrusaSlicer you should see a missing layer, but you might have to fix the gcode manually. In my case, even the dice example, that seems an over-extruded layer, was in fact a missing layer:

I hope you solve this. Keep us posted.

Thanks Madlab. I had not even considered a missing layer. I'll use a different USB drive and see how that goes.

Be sure to slice it again in order to generate a new gcode. Figer crossed! 🙂
