Is speaker supposed to beep?

Is a speaker supposed to beep on the MK4 at certain events, such as removing filament after the hot end has heated up for a filament swap?

My Mk4 (purchased assembled) doesn't.

Yes.  One place I *know* it beeps is when loading filament -- at the end of each "purge", alerting you to select "Yes" or "Purge More".

It is a pretty high frequency.  My wife can hear it clearly from several feet away, but I have some high-frequency hearing loss and can barely hear it (and only if I'm really listening for it).

I also hardly hear it.

High frequency hearing loss might also explain the lack of a beep on my machine.  I'll pay special attention at the end of "purges" during filament changes.  Thanks for that tip.

If you put electrical tape on the hole of the buzzer on the lcd module that helps make it easier to hear

Please help me out by downloading a model it's free and easy but really helps me out https://www.printables.com/@Hello_474427/models

There’s a setting for the sound behavior in the LCD menu on my MK3S+

There may be something similar on the MK4.

Cheers

I'm not a gcode expert, so I will ask 🙂

On my older MK3 I have the next code at the bottom of the end-gcode:

M300 S440 P200; beep at end of print
M300 S660 P250; beep at end of print
M300 S880 P300; beep at end of print

Since I have eneblad sound on my MK4 and it doesn't beep at the end of the print, I suppose I should add this to my end-gcode of the MK4 too?

While the Mk4 has a speaker and makes some sounds for certain operations, the current firmware does not respond to M300 so adding it to Gcode will do nothing.  Hopefully this will be fixed in a future firmware

Also not one of the youngest anymore. I wish there was a way to up the volume (past "loud"). Maybe in future someone will figure out a more sensitive beeper we can use. Any ideas already?

I am glad to read that it is not due to my faulty assembly, and that I'm not the only one with hearing problems. However, the speaker output is definitely too low and the frequency is too high, hearing loss or not. I especially miss the warning when the filament is about to be changed during multi-color printing, which I can't even hear in the same room.In my opinion, workarounds with tape on the speaker are not appropriate for such a high-quality printer, something needs to happen here.

Probably a question for Prusa support?

I really thought my just-completed MK4 was broken - it just would not beep.  So, I came here to investigate and found this thread.

Blaming your age?  Balderdash!  😉

The speaker is just not loud enough.

My ears are fine, but when I put them next to the speaker, I can just barely hear the beep when set to "Loud".

Don't blame your age.  Blame all those folks who complained about the shrieking beep of the MK3 and previous models.

Honestly, I think some firmware coder mistakenly left off a zero or two on the volume setting.

Balderdash, Robert? Flabberghasting, I haven't heard that charming expression for ages but it absolutely hits the nail on the head (as we Germans tend to say). In the meantime, I've taken a closer look and it's definitely the case that either the transducer is mechanically undersized or is actually slowed down by software (which I don't believe). I suspect that there is actually a hardware problem here, also because I have not yet received any response from the otherwise exemplary, reacting promptly  and always very competent Prusa support team. So we will either have to live with the phenomenon (reluctantly) or wait for a hardware revision. Or the guys at Prusa will come up with a magic workaround after all.

Darn. This has cost me a few long-print job failures.

Don't hear the beep and the heater later turns off, somehow later, it causes a layer skip and the print job is useless after.

Anyone know how to make this louder?

It's very quiet.  The 'fix' described in this thread worked for me.
