hot end plugged solid
It was making a clicking sound so I stopped the print and noticed there was no filament coming out of the nozzle.
I've tried a purge several times which didn't work.
I removed the hot end and used a lighter to warm the tube up and managed to get some filament out but not all of it.
I cranked the nozzle temp up to 280 and nothing came out.
I'm out of idea's and don't want to try anything that may damage something.
Also..is this suppose to be there? I don't remember it being part of the extruder.

Blow torch. Burn out the contents of the nozzle including the tube.
I've had the same problem a couple of time but only had to use a blow torch once, both times caused by damp filament most recently on a reel that I had literally just opened.

I used a lighter but I didn't want to over heat the tube.
I'm not sure why it plugged..I printed a bin last night with the same filament with no issues.

Is that "thing" in the pic suppose to be there? It looked like a gob of filament and I tried gently to remove it and it won't budge.

well I seem to have narrowed this down to a filament issue.
I got the hot end unclogged (tks JP) ran some orange petg thru it and purged it a few times.
Removed the orange filament, put the filament in that clogged on me (PLA from Filament Depot) and got the clicking noise back. It was coming from the extruder gears. I tried adjusting the tension screws on the idler swivel a bit both ways and it didn't make any difference.
I reset them as per the assembly instructions.
I tried another roll of petg and it flowed as per normal.

is PLA more susceptible to moisture than PETG?
I had a spool of each on the printer. both worked fine last night and the PETG still did this morning.

Normally no, petg would normally absorb more but it could be the pla was close to the tipping point last night and it went over that point overnight

No idea and not sure it would work either. I use an esun filament drier, if I've had problems with a reel overnight, if it has just been out for a while then for three or four hours.

a dryer is on my list..
just because I'm a sucker for breaking things again I'm going to warm the filament up with the boss's hair dryer and see if it prints.

You don't. If you have an accurate domestic oven, fan ovens are better, then 'bake' the spool at drying temperature for two or three hours but leave the oven door open a crack for moist air to escape.
