First layer issues

I am on 6.0.3 firmware.

Of late, first layer success is very hit and miss. Sometines it is perfect, others, fails every time....filament does not lay down at all and print ends up in a mess.

This happens totally at random. Sometimes I just restart the print and it is fine.....other times it is still no good.
Sometimes I turn the power off and on and it prints ok....other times it still fails.

This is getting frustrating. I don't think I had these issues with the prior version of firmware which I thingnk I will reinstall to see if these problems persist.

I also note that y axis will recalibrate more frequently than it used to do but I fail to see the relationship between first layer issues and the Y axis.

I am using the MMU3 profile via PrusaLink.

Anyone had similar experiences? Any idea how to fix?

Got the Same Poblem, if i‘m using My MacBook to slice. Using my PC with Windows No Problems on the First Layer.

Hi,

I usually clean with hot water and dish soap and then wipe with IPA.

Hi,

 

I am using the Textured Powder-coated Steel Sheet and Esun PETG filament.

I have been using Esun PETG for quite a while without any issues previously.

I almost always printed with PETG on the textured sheet with my MK3S. I never had an issue because I was able to manually dial in the z-offset. The MK4 doesn't allow that manual z-offset adjustment, and I've read multiple posts where people are not happy with how well PETG sticks to the textured sheet. I think that the inherent variations of using a loadcell to set the z-offset are probably resulting in inconsistent results that might vary from machine to machine, and over time on the ame machine. I switched to the textured sheet for this reason, and haven't had any issues with PETG sticking to it. I don't get that really nice texture on my parts, but I prefer that to failed prints.

This may or may not be the cause of Steve's problem, but I'm finding that my BML accuracy has diminished over the past 8 months. Let me explain, when first installing the Nextruder and performing the initial calibrations. I had add a live adjustment of about -0.02 in order to print the textured sheet. At first I thought this was related to the PETG debris on nozzle and the 170C BML temperature parameters. It was strikingly obvious that the system needed to z-offset adjustment because I was getting almost no squish with PETG on the textured sheet.  PLA was only marginally better with the textured sheet but not perfect, and when using the matte sheet I got better result with both material's than the textured sheet, but not perfect results. 

Once the z-offset adjust was added to the PS software I added the offset there and I use the same value for  all filaments/all build plates.

Now to the problem; since January, I've had to incrementally increase the offset value numerous times to  keep my first layer perfect.  I am currently set to -0.035 and have very consistent and well produced first layers.  And I cannot print on any surface using any filament without that offset. 

To me this indicates one of three times

1.  The load cell performance is drifting due to a malfunction, or maybe because the increase in ambient temperature since January. 

2. The Nextruder heat sink is permanently deforming or is being thermally effected by the ambient temperature increase.  

3.  It could be some differential expansion phenomena because I use a variety of nozzle materials with the adapter. This seems less likely to me because the needed offset is increasing in a somewhat linear manner. 

 In the short term I can't rule out any these without purchasing a new heat sink. We'll see if the offset goes the other way when it starts cooling down.
