Filament changes causes printer to crash

I've got a model with two colours I want to print on my MK4 using manual filament changes.

When I slice the model normally the file will print correctly. However, when I set in Printer Settings the Extruders to 2 and set the parts I want in a different colour to the second extruder the file will not load anymore. The file is recognized when I browse the files on the interface, but when I want to print it the screen just turns black (also no message no filament is detected when there is not filament loaded yet).

Does anyone elso have this problem?

Using firmware 5.1.0 and PrusaSlicer 2.7.0

RE:

Just changed my filament regularly, not even mid-print. As soon as the filament reached the sensor, my MK4 rebooted into a bluescreen. This is why one shouldn't release a new stable firmware when the entire QA staff is either on vacation or on sick leave. 🙁

Edit: I created an issue on Github for this: https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware-Buddy/issues/3520

Just downgraded the printer 5.0.1 and the print starts (sliced with PrusaSlicer 2.7.0) using multiple extruders. Also, the preview is visible again (which was not shown under 5.1.0)

I don't forsee any difficulty but I don't have a Mk4 to test it on, however the Mk4 is able to run Mk3 gcodes so, re-using the Mk3 methods should work OK.

So: use the methods in the threads linked below, slice for M3 and run on M4; it will probably ask you to confirm your intentions but then run...

Just finished a successful multi color print with the downgraded firmware. I'll try upgrading again this week and try the print again.

I do find it strange the preview is visible now, I would expect it wouldn't because the new data structure would be used with slicer 2.7.0

I've got a model with two colours I want to print on my MK4 using manual filament changes.

As far as my knowledge reaches the only way to do that is by using the color change option in Prusaslicer as explained here

So I am not sure what path you take setting another extruder in Prusaslicer. Again, this might be my lack of knowledge...

RE: Filament changes causes printer to crash

I’m having a lot of issues after upgrading to 5.1.0 and now i can’t print anything.

If i start a print (multi color>single extruder), hitting print will go to a blank screen that shows only the wifi/time/usb icons at the top of the screen. only a reset gets me back out.

If the mmu option is on in the printer settings, it tries to start the print and fails to unload the filament right off the bat, hanging forever at 49%. only a reset gets me out of that screen.

Super annoying, since it was all running just fine before the fw upgrade. Hopefully a downgrade fixes things.
