filamant clog in gear has made a hole in a part of the gearbox, unable to loag more filament or remove clog

as you can see in the image, some filament has clumped together in the gear box and seems to have worn a hole through the part above the gear. any suggestions for what to do or will I need to take the whole gear box apart? what is this part that's has been worn through? will I need to replace it or can it function without it. I have only done a few prints so not sure why its already worn out.

The gearbox needs to be disassembled, everything cleaned and assembled. As a first print, you need to print a new motherboard and replace it. You can find the stl file among the printable parts for MK4. Replacing the motherboard in the Nextruder is not difficult. Unscrew the 3 screws on the gearbox cover and carefully remove the entire gearbox including the screws and the main plate. You take off the black main plate and put on a new one. Make sure the new main board is in the same position as the original. Do not remove the gears from the metal ring! Also be careful not to lose the weak washer on the motor shaft, this washer is usually stuck with grease in the middle on the back of the gears. Then you put everything back and screw in the 3 screws. Attention, after reassembly, you must calibrate the gearbox according to the instructions on the printer screen! The entire operation, including calibration, takes less than ten minutes.

I think @miroslav-h4 meant to say you should print a new "main plate" part. It located in the Nextruder folder of the MK4 printable files.

Yes, you are right, I meant the motherboard you describe. And I think it's almost better to print this https://www.printables.com/model/599472-modified-nextruder-main-plate . It has a barrier around it so that the remnants of the filament or soft fibers cannot fall behind the gear wheel of the extruder. It prints well, but it is necessary to add support under the barrier. The assembly is exactly the same as the original. A modified board is not a requirement.

Print from PETG, 0.15 mm QUALITY or STRUCTUAL, 15% infill.

OK thanks for the information,  this sounds a tad complicated but I will try to do it. What's the reason this happened? Is it normal or is there something I could have done to prevent it? My previous prints all came out perfectly and it was my first time using this particular filament so I'm suspecting it's the filament that caused the issue.

It might have been the filament, but who knows.  If  it happens again with the same filament then you'll know. I think you'll  find it's pretty easy to disassemble, clean, and then reassemble these parts.

this is not an easy task at all, I got the psu and printer out of the enclosure, took apart most of the extruder and wires from the board, but I think its stuck. i am unable to get the PG-assembly off the extruder motor shaft.

RE:

never mind i eventually managed, and cleaned it out and reassembled it. I'm going to print out the replacement piece now. thanks!

i think the issue is the printer does 230 C for PETG instead of the 250 as mentioned on the filament. could this be it?
