Belt tuner app

What's the secret to getting consistent readings from this app?

With the same strumming action, I get readings that start as too loose and then end up saying too tight.  If I get a few consistent just right readings  next time I test it will say either too loose or tight.

Apparently the printed meter for the Mk3S can be used on the Mk4. When I get in range readings from the meter  these do not match the readings from the tuner.

I also note that when adjusting the Y belt, the slightest turn of the screw makes a dramatic change to tension.

So what are the best ways to check tension? The reason I am trying to be as accurate as possible is that I get random X or Y homing errors with irregular bashing of the printhead or bed against the axes.

RE: Belt tuner app

I first found the app didn't work properly,

but in fact I noticed that as long as you are far away the correct tension the results are fanciful (too tight or too loose), once near the correct tension the results are more accurate.

After adjusting the belts, I repeated the measurement several times with always the same result, somewhat confusing procedure, but it finally works well.

I gave up on the app and instead have been using the printed tension gauge I've used for the Mk3S and Mini for the XL and Mk4 as well. Seems to do the job just fine.

Thanks guys,

I also meant to ask, for those who built the Mk4 kit, did you place the supplied belts in the belt holder parts exactly in terms of the install manual photos, in terms of how many belt teeth are engaged in the channel of the belt holders and starting point etc? (Hope you follow).

I'm going to re-check my setup. Maybe if my starting point is different, the fine adjustment process may not be giving me the best results.

If you don't mind me asking... Which Gauge works?

Prusa support told me the one for the Mk3S will work. Problem is, it is only available on Printables in G code form, so you will need to make sure the firmware version you have on the Mk4 will accept Mk3 g-code.

From Support chat:
You can also print this belt tension meter and set the tension with its help
https://www.printables.com/model/46639-tension-meter-for-the-gt2-belts-of-i3-mk3s-or-prus/files

I have the belt tension in range on the printed meter but the tuner app says too tight.....I can't work this out.

Same for me. I find the tension meter easier to interpret the values.

For me it prints nicer when I tune towards Max.

With my Mini I was more in the middle.

But then I have slight vertical artefacts in the X direction on the mk4.

It is important that it is not too much because of the motor bearings.

Same for me, I stay with the printed tensiometer.

By the way, as I am not using the original bearings but different ones, which run a little bit harder, it seems to me that all this bashing things are caused by a much to sensitive firmware. I had some bashing on Y after a while. Some grease on the rods, bearings run a bit smoother, and the bashing is gone.

May be they made this sensitivity because of IS, but for normal use it could be a bit more tolerant.

I think that the firmware will be refined over time. I think they're pretty busy at the moment.

RE: Belt tuner app

Thanks for all the comments guys.

I've just been tinkering ......

Rechecked all belts and set tension again. I used the printed meter and adjusted towards "Max" as was suggested by Rainer.

When I try the belt tuner app again, although values jump around, when I get a regular strum going, it will return "just right" frequently, not withstanding sometimes "too tight" might be displayed.

I just re-ran the self test and tried a few auto home moves. All goes perfectly with only the 2 hits against the x and Y axis sides as part of the check routines and this is under IS firmware.

So at this stage, all looks to be ok.

Does anyone know of anything else printed tension gauge that could be sliced with the PrusaSlicer for the MK4
