Annoying guy finally uploads a video showing his layer shifts

I'm sure I'm getting a bit annoying now but I still can't figure out the cause of my layer shifts even after capturing it on video.  I had 0 issues before upgrading to IS and since then my failure rate has been over 50%.  Printing with PETG, single object.  Here is the video with sound.  Any help is MUCH appreciated.

Hey there!

No need to worry about being annoying – troubleshooting can be a bit frustrating, but the community is here to help! I appreciate you sharing the video; it's a smart move to document the issue. Now, let's dive into finding a solution!

Firstly, kudos on upgrading to IS – it's unfortunate that it seems to have caused some headaches. To better assist you, could you provide more details about the printer model, any recent changes in settings, or modifications made? Sometimes, the devil is in the details.

Now, about the video – it's fantastic that you included sound. Have you considered using a video editing app to enhance the clarity of the footage? You can use features like slow-motion or zoom to get a closer look at the layer shifts. It might reveal subtle details that could be crucial for diagnosis.

I just solved a problem with rough layers on prints which was caused by the nozzle being loose in the heatblock. It often generated rough enough output that the nozzle could collide with it and might easily have caused layer shifts. Probably not your problem, but easy to check.

i see you dont use the original spool holder. If so pls be sure the filament is easy to pull. When you pull the filament the opposed way you will see the the extruders Movement, its just a tiny bit but enought to ruin a first layer or do some tiny layer shifts.

RE:

Hi -

I'm also experiencing x-axis layer shifts, trying to figure it out, like you.  And like your case, it doesn't happen every time and it happens non-repeatably (with respect to how much and on what z-layer).

That big "clunk" in the video was really interesting.  Were you able to determine what that was caused by?  It looks like the nozzle hangs up on some material right at the edge, but it's hard to tell.  If it did hang up on some upward-pointing material, it's kind of curious how later on, after the shift, the nozzle goes over the same area just fine, with no interference.

I saw the video and it's amazing with the sound. You can also use slow motion to check subtle details that could be crucial for diagnosis.

I'm nowhere near a 50% failure rate, but I had something seemingly similar happen to a recent print:

I've printed this successfully once before and it's currently printing with no problem. I thought it might be hardware related, but it looks to be a shift on X and Y at the same layer. How would Input Shaper result in a print like this?

I had this happen on a recent print with my MINI+ running 6.0.2+14873.  Loud "clunk" and then layer shift.  Like it forgot its position on the X axis.
